2010 Laredo Review
Been browsing around here for a few months, so thought I would go ahead and post my review.
2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 2WD 3.7 Inferno Red/Dark Khaki Cloth
only option fog lights. Sticker was 31k and I bought it back in April for 22k with all of the incentives and clear for the new model motivation. After 8k miles here are my thoughts of my first American car.
2002 BMW 330Ci
2005 VW Touareg V8
2005 Audi A6 3.2
2007 BMW 335i
Exterior - Love it, looks as an SUV should, bold and muscular with angular lines.
Interior - A bit drab and utilitarian, while it is an SUV they have always dubbed this a luxury SUV. Do not like how the middle of the dash juts out so much with no rounded edges (I as well as guest have banged knees several times). Driving position and visibility is good. Material choice could be better on the dash, door materials are ok.
I am not dogging it for the lack of power as I find its power nearly adequate. I am doing so for its complete lack of refinement. Granted I am coming from a BMW 335i with a renowned and sublime inline 6, but I have driven many americans cars and trucks and this powerplant is just simply sub standard. Too much vibration and grown is felt throughout every control surface (wheel and pedals) and the thing sounds horrible under full throttle. At idle is fairly quiet but promotes a bit too much shake throughout the car. Recent chevrolet cobalt 4 banger showed more refinement. MB tranny is pretty nice.
For the live axle set up its fairly well controlled and damped, though a bit floaty and disconnected, not surprising on vehicles like this with a great range of suspension travel. It does handle bumps pretty well, however, you do hear a bit of unsettling noise while the front independent suspension does its job over rough surfaces.
Younger sister has an 05 WK model that pales in comparison to this 2010. I am actually pretty impressed with the build quality so far at 8k miles. Driver door panel had some squeaks and rattles but most have subsided. Have had an issue with the A/C blend door has a mind of its own, and when switching vent locations it will blow hard but not out any vent but it only happens every so often and dealer cannot replicate.
I bought this car because I live in a particular region of New Orleans where our streets resemble the lunar surface, result of a combination of lack of maintenance and poor substrate (swamp). So far it has served me well and I am actually enjoying it.
