255/70/17 Firestone Densination AT on Stock WK?????
Does anyone know, or has anyone installed 255/70/17 Firestone Destination AT's on a WK without a lift and had them fit with no problems. I am trying to stuff up the wheel well a little bit since it's going to time for new tires soon.
I am ok with doing just a little bit of modification.
I have the Destinations in 255/70 on stock rims. I do have the RC lift; however, I have seen them fitted to a non lifted WK as well. The only rubbing I get is at full lock. The inner tread rubs the frame very slightly. I don't see any damage to the tread pattern, it only removed some paint from the frame, so I am still undecided on whether to get some spacers or not. If I get spacers then I'm pretty sure I'd have to fold the pinch weld. But then, how often am I going to full lock. I hardly ever do even in parking lots.
Those tires may fit but tires are also gears, so it will throw off your speedometer and be slower accllerating since you are effectively making the final drive taller.
Just stick with the stock size; I have those tires in 245 17's and they work great !
On my WJ, with 10mm wider tires, I've found that the odometer is about 3 miles in 100 less than with the stock size, and the speedometer is spot on for true speed. I'm running the Firestones, and find them just as good as the more expensive Revos, and give a smooth, quiet ride.
