Re: 3.7 towing rating

If it is the tranny, how come the CRD (with the same tranny) can tow 7400 pounds, and the 3.7 can only tow 3500?

The 3.7 just doesn't have the available torque, or HP, to pull the heavy WK around with a heavy trailer.

Re: 3.7 towing rating

I'm no expert and have no idea, but I'd guess that tow rating will depend on 2 things; vehicle structural integrity (frame), and strength of motor (hp/tq).

Re: 3.7 towing rating

The SRT's suspension is what limits it's towing ability - also, from the factory - the option for the hitch is like a class 1 receiver because of the exhaust set up.

The 3.7's lack of pulling power really has nothing to do with the transmission in this case.

Re: 3.7 towing rating

well the srt has the same frame and much higher strength motor but can only tow the same!

Why?

You'd also have to beef up the suspension.

According to WKjeeps... both the 3.7 and the SRT come with the Class II hitch. That is what my guess is what is limiting the trailer weight on both. Also the suspension could be an issue with the SRT.

The 4.7/5.7/CRD come with the class IV hitch and can all pull more than 6500 pounds - and there isn't THAT big of a difference between the 3.7 and 4.7 (gen I) as far as power is concerned.

If you want tow more with the 3.7 - get a class IV hitch. I still don't know if I'd go trying to pull 7400 pounds. How heavy is the item you are looking to pull around?

Look at this chart on this website:
http://hitches4less.com/trailer-hitch-classes.html

Class II is only rated for 3,500 lbs - the same as the tow rating for the SRT and 3.7. Class 3 is good to 5,000 lbs, and class 4 is good to 12K pounds.

Re: 3.7 towing rating

i think the 3.7 wk is very capable of towing more than 3500... i think with better shocks and the fans from the liberty 3.7 ill be closer to the magical 6000 towing rating

What has he done? Has he confirmed that there is no harm being done for the long term?
