Re: 49th State Down, Notes from Alaska

Nice trip. The last time I took the long and dirty bus ride to Mt Mckinley, it was cloudy and foggy. They said the same thing, its rarely clear. What a cool place.

We took an Aramark tour to avoid the park's school bus fleet. The Tundra Wilderness Tour took us to Stony Hill Overlook, about 62 miles in on the park road, just short of the Eielson Visitor Center. It's like no other place I've been to. I can't wait to get back.

Thanks man! Like all of us, I've done what I wanted to make it my own, and still love climbing into it everyday. What is a surprise to me still, is that at almost 5 years old, it still turns heads nearly everywhere I go.

I had stopped noticing a couple years ago and one day my wife mentioned it. I told her she was seeing things, so to prove me wrong she has pointed out long starers and head turners since then. I still get a kick out of it.

That was wonderful, Loved everything about it. The jeep looked like it belonged in its natural habitat.

Thanks for sharing your trip. I'll probably never do something like that but we should appreciate the beauty that is there.
I noticed the River Front license plate frame. Do you live near Aurora? I'm not too far, Bartlett.

Not really, I'm in the NW Burbs. When it came time to buy, they had the only black Overland with the dark khaki interior and DVD player within 200 miles. I wasn't going to special order, so I went with them. The only downside was they had installed the chrome bug deflector and running boards. I came around to the deflector quickly, but the running boards were tossed when the sliders went on.

Thanks Megatron! It certainly took to the work without complaining, and was a blast on the haul road without the trailer.

Re: 49th State Down, Notes from Alaska

Looks like a fantastic trip! I'm glad you did it with a WK and it served you well going in to the trip at almost 100K. I've only seen those roads on Ice Road Truckers so its cool to see them with out snow. Any reason you did just the ome coils in back and the rr in front? Why not a complete ome kit or at least the springs for the improved ride quality? I think the trip would be more comfortable/efficient with ATs vs MTs any way. I'm hoping to get a camper like that in the future, I have towing air bags in my rear coils and ill get the load dist hitch and flaps but I would like the get all 4 ome coils as well. You should look in to LED light bars from companies like Rigid Industries for your extra lighting. Less power usage and so much more light output!
