A/C Question

Ok, so I think I've got something going on with my A/C...

I am under the assumption that when i have my A/C set to blow out of the dash vents only, that NO air should be coming from the floor vents.

No matter what setting I have my air on, air comes out of the floor vents.

Any ideas? Hopefully I can find an easy fix that doesn't involve dismantling the dash, lol.

The amount of air coming out of the dash vents feels about the same as the amount coming out of the floor.

I would think that no or very very little air would come out of the floor when the selector is on dash only, then it'd be about even when it is set to dash/floor, and then no to very little air coming out of the dash when it is set to floor only.

Yeah... when I turn it to all floor, it all comes from the floor - so it seems that the only problem is when it is set to all dash and it blows out even from the dash and floor

I'm gonna go mess around with it a bit right now.

Do you have the dual zone ac ?? If it's electronically controlled, one of the gears that operates the vents could be broken ... ???

Black - yes I have the dual zone A/C - where are these gears located? I'm assuming they are a bitch to get to.

Just went out and messed with it - here it what is does:

Setting - Result

Dash only - dash and floor equally
Dash and floor - dash and floor, a little more air coming from floor than dash
Floor only - floor and defrost equally
Defrost and floor - defrost and floor equally
Defrost only - defrost and floor
Auto - dash and floor equally

I'm no pro but I would guess that your blend door that leads to the floor ducts is broken..

Even if you have it on full dash, it blew the same amount of air from the dash vents as through the floor vents?

I wish I had a scan tool to pull codes from the A/C system. I'm thinking the superchips can't pull those codes.

Yeah I've got equal air coming from the dash and and floor when its on dash only.

I am 99% sure there is something wrong with the "mode door actuator" for the dash/defrost/floor - there is also one for the rear air and rear floor but that one is working properly.

I am going to take the old one out and give it a lookover - if it needs replacing it is a $22 part.

It is accessible but frankly the dealer always took apart the dashboard twice on me in order to "fix" the actuator. They just want to tack on the extra hour onto the labor. :\ But hey whatever it works. That part more than likely is a special order. I had to wait a week for it on both occasions. Let us know how it goes!

But say you have the A/C fan on the middle setting - does it feel like the same amount of air is coming from the floor that is coming from the vents?

I can understand a little bit of air being routed to the floor because it is a lot of air to push out the vents, but it shouldn't be equal, thus making my dash vents feel weak.

And also I am led to believe that the actuator is messed up because when I put it on floor only it blows from the floor and the defrost vents....

The part is only $22, so I'm gonna get it.

I would change the knob to floor, or vent and yes it would work but it would never go to the windshield. The second time this happened every other setting would work except for the floor. But i don't have an issue where i turn on the vents and it redirects it to the floor also.
