A/C 'ticking' in reverse

The other day I noticed my moms Jeep was making a ticking noise from under the hood when she was pulling out of the garage. I stopped her and had her pop the hood while keeping it in reverse. The sound seems like it is coming from the a/c compressor. Does anyone have any Ideas?

Just wanted to update: Yesterday I replaced the belt on my moms jeep and mine. It turns out one of the bering went bad on the tensioner pulley. Replaced that and the belt sounds a lot better.

Check the serpentine belt. I've had a belt that was in otherwise good visible condition stretch to the point of making the idler pulley tick during certain functions like going into drive with the AC on, etc. That happened to me on my Liberty and before I found the actual problem I was swearing it was the AC compressor making the sound. How old is your belt?
