After lift clunk

I installed a lift a few months ago and ever sense then I have noticed a clunk in the front suspension that only happens when I hit a bump or pothole with one of the front tires. Kindof like a fast repeating loose bolt shaking noise (sorry hard to explain). At first I thought it was a loose bolt I missed to torque down but I rechecked all of those that I loosened and the clunk is still there. I have sense been ridiculously busy and have just dealt with the noise as its not all that loud. The other day I jacked up the left front control arm (so that the suspension was loaded but wheel was in the air) and moved the tire by hand left/right and it does make what I assume is the noise im hearing when driving. I think it is coming straight from the rack and pinion but the part that has me confused is that there is zero play in the steering wheel. Feels like driving a brand new car. I dont want to go though the nightmare of replacing the rack and pinion if that is not the issue. Any help and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: After lift clunk

It's no big deal. I have it too. It's the front sway bar bushings. Easy and cheap fix. Make sure you get the new designed bushings and brackets.

Re: After lift clunk

Anybody know how big the 2005 WK sway bar is? The bushings on rockauto are for a 1.29" diameter sway bar. They are only $15 and they are a better design than OEM.

Found this after 2for3 response. I know it does say the size but it might be the same part that you are looking at on rockauto. Do you think the play in the steering when i muscle the LF wheel is a separate issue?

Re: After lift clunk

I'll bet you $100 it's the nut on the top of the strut. classic symptoms. it's gotta be torqued down all the way, and it's easy to not do that since the piston shaft spins in the shock. Ask me how I know...

Re: After lift clunk

i wouldnt fret the clunk either... thicker spacers should help, i just put a lift on my wk and noticed some vibrations and a little more road feel in my steering wheel and seat... ill be looking to replace some of those bushings as well i think

Re: After lift clunk

Went to the dealer today and ordered the bushings and mounts. Wont be in until tomorrow and hopefully ill find some time to install them. I'm sure its not all that much to worry about, but then again after spending over $12k (HUUGE! investment for me) for my jeep and the add-ons, little things like clunks and noises tend to get on my nerves quick.

Overboostin, I started with the RC 2" lift so I never had to take the strut nut off (still could have become loose in some way, not doubting you). I have new front bilstein's that I planned on putting on once I had the time and access to my fathers garage for the day. So if the sway bar mounts doesnt fix this, then the new struts are going on asap.

Well, shouldn't let little stuff like that bother you. It could be worse.
