Re: aftermarket battery selection

I just started my newly built motor after jeep sitting idle for almost 5 months and I never touched the battery. It started it right up and you can hear it in my supercharged thread.

I have a Optima Redtop

Re: aftermarket battery selection

I ended up having to go with a WalMart EverStart Maxx when I needed to buy a battery at 10 at night a week or so ago. It appears to be a Johnson Controls, otherwise I have had good luck with the Costco Kirkland batteries (They also sell Optimas).

Re: aftermarket battery selection

Went yellow about 2 years ago. Takes abuse all day when detailing on a regular basis (ou guys know how it is, listening to music all day etc). Absolutely no problem. Completely worth the extra few bucks. Just my .02c

Re: aftermarket battery selection

Do the yellow tops offer similar starting performance as reds? I was always under the the assumption that yellows were more of an auxiliary/reserve battery and reds were much better suited for reds.

Re: aftermarket battery selection

I had a yellow top in my Ford F250 and when it would sit for a few weeks it would be very weak starting.

I'm no pro brothamandude, but all's I know is mine works great whenver i abuse it. From what I've heard, the yellow is a "deep cycle" which means its made to be drained completely down then it cycles back to normal with no ill effects... Again, just what I've heard.

I will second the costco batteries. They are also made by johnson controls, very good choice if you can get one. The other jeep has had a costco battery in it for the last 4 years. Still starting strong after all these winters of being outside.

Re: aftermarket battery selection

Don't buy the Costco Optimas, they are not the same.

I bought the expensive Optima (yellow and a red) and they lasted each 5 years, that's fine, that's what I expected. Then when Costco started selling them I switched as it was 50-75 bucks cheaper. 2 yellow tops and 1 red top, only lasted 2 years (lost my recepit for the yellows so I couldn't return them). Costco stopped selling them recently up here in Canada so I ended up getting a refund for the red top which is the most recent one I had purchased.

Odyssey seems to be the best, lost of guys in my Jeep club with them and they are outperforming the Optimas, and they are also outlasting. The Odysseys have a 6yr warranty IIRC as well. The optima is 3yr
