Re: aftermarket battery selection

I've been running the Optima D27F YellowTop battery for 3 years now with no issues. I don't even have it mounted down because the old battery mounts wouldn't fit with this battery. It just rattles around and seems to do just fine. That being said, I've always been an Optima YellowTop guy. I've had 8 of them now in a variety of vehicles and I've never had one die on me. I've heard Odyssey's are the best, but I haven't been given a reason to switch to them yet. I'll stick with Optima YellowTop. If they ever fail me, then I'll try the Odyseey's out.

It's really a bad plan to have a battery that's not securely mounted. Even if you're just mall-crawling with it, a battery coming loose during an accident could very well turn a simple problem into something deadly if it shorts out and catches fire.

There's lots of ways to cobble up a mount, please look into getting it secured!

That said, I've used optimas for ages on our boat, they're great. I most recently had the battery in the WK replaced with a Diehard AGM. I think it was all of $10 more to upgrade to it from a regular lead cell model.
