Aftermarket body parts, experience

Hi
I am looking to uppgrade my front bumper, actual 2005 to 2008.
Well, I find that I can buy theese kind of parts as aftermarket parts from difference vendors and for difference price, and much cheaper than OEM.
And all of them have difference qualitee norms like CAPA, Premium and so on. But I am skeptical when it comes to fitment, quality and durability compare to real OEM stuff.

However, does anobody here in this forum any experince from that kind of aftermarket body parts, where to buy, which qualitee, best price compare to qualitee...is it good or bad stuff compare to OEM

Greatful for all help I can get become less confused about this!

Re: Aftermarket body parts, experience

I actually just ordered my parts for my 2008 conversion. You can get them from rock auto or discount body parts. Either or will do you good. What you will need is a 2008 grille, bumper, air dam and front bumper support.

Oh I forgot 2008 headlights!

Re: Aftermarket body parts, experience

Hello
Thanks for your response, but do you know anything about the quality compare to OEM bumper parts?
Have you Heard from others about that or do you just chance and ordred?

Yes, I have found a lot of vendors in US for bumper parts, the question is which one you can trust on... Wich brand for the bumper and vendor did you choose?

Is all of these stuff from Taiwan or? do you have an idea...
When you get your parts may be you can response to me again about the fit, quality and durability, it would be very kind.

I live in Sweden you know, and here is only the OEM and nothing else is available for Jeep, and not much 2008 in the junkyard either.

hello
Now i found something about CAPA Certification, good to know when ordering body parts like front bumper 2008 conversion. If you want quality and fit you should choose CAPA as I understand it.
Link below about CAPA

CAPA might be a step in the right direction. But as I understand it, and unless things have changed, their funding comes from the aftermarket parts industry and the insurance companies, the two biggest beneficiaries of using aftermarket parts.

Again, I've been retired for a while, but early on the CAPA guarantee was that if it took extra work to get parts to fit, the manufacturer of those parts would pay the shop for that time.

The old argument of aftermarket part being made overseas doesn't make a lot of sense when so many OEM parts are also outsourced.

The most important thing with parts today is that the vendor you purchase from will stand behind them if something isn't right. You don't want to be pushed off to the jobber or the manufacturer.

Re: Aftermarket body parts, experience

Hi
I agree with what you write about CAPA and oversees manufactors, but it's interesting that the price may be a third of OEM products in the United States, and if you are lucky, the quality is on parity with OEM.

Here in Sweden costs Jeep OEM twice against the United States, so there is great potential for me to save. But since I do not know the vendors in the United States, I try to find out which ones are good through this forum, and it's a great forum for us Jeep people.

The important thing for me is to find a responsible vendor and that what I buy is of good quality, it's plastic parts so I can believe that the quality can vary.

Who can I trust? Rock Auto seems many buy from, are they good?

Re: Aftermarket body parts, experience

Ha, I have found out through the CAPA and their database that only two manufacturers that are CAPA certified as regards bumpers for the Jeep GC 2008, and only one of these two are certified for both Bumper Cover and Air Dam, it is the company Tong Yang from Taiwan. I googled them and found some interesting and encouraging information.
See the link below.

Taiwanese molder Tong Yang invests $100 million in auto parts expansion - News - Plastics News

So I hope it is this company Tong Yang, that supplies it I will come to order, they seem to be able to this with plastic manufacturing

Re: Aftermarket body parts, experience

I've sorted out what is what now, there are two providers of the CAPA certiiferade Bumper Cover (OEM 68033744AB) and Air Dam or Valance (OEM 68033745AB) to Jeep GC 2008-2010.
Both are made in Taiwan/China by Taiwanese companies Tong Yang and AP Procom.

I have also talked with Rock Auto about it and they ensures that if you order CAPA sertifierade parts so also guaranteed fit and durability in accordance with CAPA quality standards.
They also guarantee to replace the product at no charge if it turns out that the product does not hold the promised CAPA quality.

I have also sorted out that Rock Auto seems to be credible and to have the best price on these products for us who want to convert to 2008 front end.
They have Three different standards in their website when ordering these Products, and CAPA is one of them and also the one with the best quality.

Parts needed for conversion are: (RockAuto have all of them)
68033744AB / CH1000932 - FASCIA, Front Bumper - CAPA
68033745AB / CH1090136 - Air dam - CAPA
68033747AA / CH1041107 - BRACKET, Air Dam Support
55157476AB / CH1041108 - BRACKET, Fascia, To Lower Crossmember
1DF491DAAB / CH1200307 - GRILLE, Radiator, Includes: Sight Shield
And headlights for 2008-2010, there are plenty of choise, ebay and others...

After careful research , I have sorted out all this now, and CAPA nevertheless seems sufficient quality compared to OEM. Now I only have to order them and have confirmed that it is indeed the case as I now think.

Does anyone have bad experiences with CAPA bumpers so please let me/us know ..

Re: Aftermarket body parts, experience

hi there, ive used rockauto to great success with the oem body parts. a while back I had to replace the bumper and airdam. I saved a little more doing all the work myself but I can say the fit of the parts is as good as the original part from the factory!

only thing is, the cost of shipping even in the states is ridiculous. the shipping costed more then the parts themselves!
