Aftermarket Stereo Upgrade?

Apologies, I have done a search but can't find what I'm looking for, please help.

I have the standard head unit in my export 2006 Grand Cherokee Limited, no nav, and no boston acoustics:

Can you tell me what I need to swap to an aftermarket unit. I need to find out where to get a wiring harness adapter, steering wheel controls adapter and do I need an antenna adapter?

I already have the fascia adapter/nav bezel for a double din install

I am in the UK, so any help specific to here is excellent, but as most car audio experts here can't find me a harness, if anyone tells me where I can source such a thing in the US, that is also a great help.

Thanks guys!

Re: Aftermarket Stereo Upgrade?

There are 2 major players for harnesses. They have trade-offs.

BUT I URGE YOU TO CALLTHEM AND CHECK IF THEY CAN DEAL WITH A NON-US COUNTRY CODE. I have heard of some where these harnesses were having issues in SOME countires.

PAC-AUDIO- and METRA are the main players. I wanted steering controls so I went with PAC-Audio.

Here is my list:

I have the AVIC F90BT and have used my factory amp, speakers, steering controls, sirius antenna, fender antenna, etc.

I also wanted to retain my sat antenna.

here is a list of items I needed besides the Head Unit:

Main harness adapter: PAC C2R-CHY4
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...R-CHY4v1-.html

Pioneer Sirus Adapter: Pioneer CD-SB10
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...paign=froogle#

a new sirius box: SCC1
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000Q9UFKU/...SIN=B000Q9UFKU

Pioneer Steering Wheel Adapter: PAC SWI PS
http://www.amazon.com/PAC-SWI-PS-Pio.../dp/B000AXW7SA

Chrysler Fender Antenna Adapter: Metra 40CR30
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...R9DZ36XBRWFYW6

then a D-DIN Adapter: Metra 99-6510
http://www.amazon.com/Metra-99-6510-.../dp/B000K52D0K

Oh yeah, I wanted a fuully functional IPOD hookup too:

Re: Aftermarket Stereo Upgrade?

Thanks for your help so far...

I have just realised that as my GC is a Limited, I may have the premium system WITH amp. There is 6 speakers and when i look through the vent in the left side rear of the trunk, I can see the bottom of what looks like the amp, as pictured here:

I didn't expect this as the single cd player am/fm radio is so cheap and nasty I didn't think it would be part of the "premium" system. The amp isn't a dummy is it? There simply wouldn't be one there, right?

Does this change things now, I assume I need harnesses for an amplified system?

Thanks again for your time

Re: Aftermarket Stereo Upgrade?

ross now your choice is to stick with the factory amps and speakers or going to a complete custom setup.

I really wanted as much factory wiring as possible so I chose the Kicker upgrade to keep factory wiring instead of new stuff and new wiring.

the factory stuff has its limits but I am satisfied. all depends on your goals.

but do HEED MY SHOUT about calling the interface vendors to 100% confirm that there deal will work with a NON US Country code.

they also have to reach over to shift and the P, N, etc displays are really far away. You would think they would customize this part as well since they customized the whole stearing wheel location.

You've got to be kidding, I'm hardly having to "reach" over, and I still have the P, R, N, D, 4, 3, 2, 1 on my dash display if I don't feel the need to look over to the left for shifting guidance

The only strange thing is the e-brake, they should have custom made that, just like my old WJ, they clearly didn't bother for the WK.

Back to topic: Many thanks for all your help Rob, I'm going to stick with the factory amp and speakers as big sound is not my priority, the stock sound is fine, but the stock head unit is awful, a new pioneer double din will be great I will take your advice before I import anything though. Thanks again.

Re: Aftermarket Stereo Upgrade?

Thanks to all who helped me out, via PM as well as here.

After a long wait for the PAC C2R-CHY4 and the SWI-PS to get here in the UK from the States I finally have my Pioneer AVH-P3200BT fitted

Re: Aftermarket Stereo Upgrade?

RossC-
I have a 2005 GC laredo, realizing im in the states and our steering wheels are obviously in different locations, I was looking at the same pioneer HU, and through amazon.com I found the steering wheel control adapter and wiring harness for the new HU all for less then 400 USD. My question for you is did u install/wire your self? If so, how complicated was it?
