@&@&-; Wk!

So...I have 05 Wk with the 3.7. I had been chasing down the low idle issue and dealing with a vibration. Last night I found the prop shaft CV joint was blown apart. Not good, but not a big deal to change out. After I was done looking at that I went to lock my doors using remote lock and ...nothing. I went in grabed wife's key....nothing. I thought maybe the jeep batt was dead....nope all good. Then thought???? Fob batteries were both changed a couple weeks ago when I thought mine had gone dead. Back then I changed to new and both worked fine. Not the case this time. Cannot get them to work even with two new batteries . everything looks good inside the fob cases and I haven't done anything to the jeep other than drive to and from work. Anyone have the fix? This Wk is driving me.nutzzzzz.

Re: @&@&-; Wk!

The early fobs had a problem with one of the battery solder joints, and the negative contact on the circuit board not making good contact with the battery. Problems caused by this are sometimes varied. I just had it happen with my 05 LX vehicle, which uses the same type fob as my 06 WK.

My fob went completely dead and, when I used the key for vehicle entry, the alarm went off. I had to use my wife's key to shut the alarm off and start the engine. After troubleshooting at home, using my Autel DS708 diagnostic tool, I found both the bad solder joint and a poor contact with the negative battery contact. After fixing both, the fob works fine again.

Not saying yours has the same problem(s), especially since your having the problem with both keys. The easiest way to troubleshoot this is with a scanner that has the capability of seeing what's going on with the communications between the key(s) and the WCM/SKREEM module which is located under the dash. It'll also be able to tell if the key is recognized and identify when each button is pushed and sending out a signal.

On yours, does either of the keys set off the alarm when used to unlock and open the door? When the key is inserted into the ignition and turned to the "on" position, does the dash "bulb test" occur? If no scan tool is available, the first thing I'd do is check the fobs for the bad solder joint (it's on the positive side and usually one of the 2 side positive contacts come loose from the board) and clean the negative contact on the board....the one that's imbedded on the board. If the positive contact solder joint is loose, usually that "leg" of the contact will be sitting higher (cocked) than the battery, when the battery is installed. In other words, the two side positive contacts will look uneven.

Re: @&@&-; Wk!

Both of my keys set off alarm, but they also start jeep and turn off alarm. I've taken both fobs apart and everything looks fine...to me, with my.bad eyes .didn't seem to be anything loose. Strongjeff said he thought it might be the wcm/skreem itself since everything I've tried had no results, other than finding a few loose fuses that brought life back to at least my adj pedals..lol.
Thanks for the reply. I probably would have gotten a few more responses had I actually put issue down instead of what I did. But you guys always steer me in the right direction. Thankful for forums and YouTube.

Re: @&@&-; Wk!

If the keys still turn everything on/off, and the vehicle continues to run past about 2 seconds, they're probably good and it very well could be like Jeff said....the WCM/SKREEM Module itself. The only real way to tell is with a good computerized diagnostic tool. Otherwise you're just playing guessing games. Good luck and keep us posted on what you find.

Re: @&@&-; Wk!

Unfortunately, it definitely sounds like an issue the dealer is going to have to take a look at.

Re: @&@&-; Wk!

I am not exactly sure where under the driver's side dash it is located, but a new one will have to be programmed before it'll work......key(s) and TPMS info. You'll need something like the factory StarScan or an Autel DS708.

Re: @&@&-; Wk!

Sounds like I'm headed to dealer. I remember days before remote anything and did just fine then, not sure why it bothers me so bad now, just a PIA. Thanks for the help.

I'll take the rare issue with remotes over fumbling to unlock a door with a key while it's raining and my hands are full.
