another tire question for lifted wk

hey guys, new to posting but got lots of info from this great site! i am about to buy 05 wk with 5.7lt and want to put ome 2" lift (med duty) my question is what is the largest/best tire to run on stock rim without having to cut anything or get rubbing. i wll use spacers if that will change things.

Re: another tire question for lifted wk

I run 265/70/17 with minor rubing with OME lift.
I also have AEV wheels.

I have a 2" lift with 265/70/17 on stock wheels, I needed spacers and I have to flatten the pinch weld behind the front tires. Also had to trim the upper ball joint bolt. I blame it all on the stock wheels.

Best setup- Find a used set of Moabs from a JK with low miles on the 255/75/17 BFG KM1's (Unider $600) and then purchase 1/4" spacers (under $30). You will have no rubbing and will not have to fold the pinch weld, just makesure you use loc-tite on the lug threads. You can even run this setup stock with no lift and thats a 32" tire.

Re: another tire question for lifted wk

No the backspacing is different on the moabs. Not really sure how it would be or if anyone has ever run stock wheels with 1/4" spacers.

Re: another tire question for lifted wk

I run the RK 3.5 (2'' lift really) and LOVE my 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers (they're great on pavement, dirt, mud, snow, and incredible on ice!). Had no problems with "the bolt" but had to do the pinch weld fold. Really no big deal at all. I used a blow torch and a hammer to fix it. Melted off the wheel well plastic that was rubbing, heated the pinch weld to a malleable point, beat it with a hammer until it was out of the way, spray painted the exposed metal black and no more rub! Takes like 15 mins.

NOTE - my wheels have +15 offset, they stick out a good bit more than stock wheels do so that may be why I cleared "the bolt" without problems. Just something to keep in mind but yet again, I'm sure it's very easy to just cut the bolt off a bit. Hard to hurt anything with either mod.

ok so i like your set-up i see on ebay that i can get 5 jk rims with about half wear on the bfg's for around 1000 then another 270 for shipping. 13 hondo seems like alot for used wheels/tires how do u like the ride and what kind of spacers r u using. thanx this has helped a lot.

also do u know if the 18" wrangler rims will work the same way, i am getting the ome 2" lift, thanx

Re: another tire question for lifted wk

I got my BFG's from an ebay dealer (actually came boxed up, TireRack does not box) and my 1/4" spacers were from ebay, so dont be worried. $140 a tire with free shipping is a pretty good deal since the price skyrocketed on these a few months ago.
