I am just around the corner from getting a remote start/alarm system installed on my jeep but i read up on another forum that the laredo was not supposed to be compatible with remote start?...anybody have the remote start and do you have any issues at all?

I have one on my 2006 Limited through the alarm system. I don't have any problems with it. I didn't do the install but I do remember the installer complaining that the install was a pain in the rear. I couldn't tell you what problems if any he had.

it is a factory integrated alarm system if my research is correct. still requires splicing like an aftermarket alarm but some people claim for it to be less quirky than other aftermarket alarms. what he's saying ^^ is that with this particular module you cannot get the remote start with it. i am very new to owning this jeep so my knowledge isn't as advanced as some of you so if i'm at all wrong please correct me :)

I've got one in my niner that has the factory alarm, the installer had to put some interface in so the remote would work with alarm. I have no problems with it.

i've always wanted the remote start for the jeep since this is the only automatic i've ever owned...i guess if i have a custom company here locally do it they'll have the know how to get it done. they are very pricey but on an alarm and remote start i would think that it is definitely worth it.

I've been spoiled with my remote start! I hate having to go out and start my stang when I drive it in the summer. It's a 5-spd so no remote start.

The EVS security works through the factory remote to activate/de-activate (arm/disarm) What happens is the alarm triggers when the vehicle is remote started. The only option is to not use the factory remote for locking/unlocking beause that is what runs the arming and disarming. If you put in a remote starter, get the keyless entry hooked up and just don't use the factory fob. No problems. Other than that,no problems at all putting a remote starter in any jeep.

And apstang50-there are companies that make starters specifically for standard transmissions.

Really didn't know that. But you have to make sure it's always in neutral and with the ebrake not working that great I always leave it in gear!

When I had the remote start put in the niner they had to put some interface in so it would work with the factory alarm, it was like an xtra $75.

I have a remote starter/alarm combo, The Viper 5901 2 way. I used a bypasskit for the transponder key and the door locks. It took about 20 minutes to program the bypass. Otherwise it was an easy install. I now don't use my remote key (which are expensive and break easy) I use a "rock" key that cost $30. and I keep my remote keys in the safe incase I need to program a new one.

I have the Viper 5701 with remote start in mine. Works great. I havent had a problem yet. I just use the remote that came with the unit and one of my spare keys that doesnt have the lock/unlock buttons on it. I also had them wire one of the aux features to pop the back window hatch. That way I wasnt losing any functionality while not using my original key. I love it and it has come in very handy this winter.

8+ years of car audio installation experience. I can tell you its 100% doable, with no issues. I've installed countless remote starters and alarms in D.C.J vehicles that all use the same platform.

any questions feel free to shoot me a PM and i can give you some more detail on anything you'd like to know.

Didn't even know it had remote start until one night after I got it I went up to my room at like 2 am made sure the jeep was locked by pressing the lock button a bunch of time them got ready for bed. I kept hearing bass , thought to myself what asshole is playing there music this loud on residential street at this time. Looked out my window and my jeep was running. Ran downstairs thought someone was stealing it but the jeep was completely locked. Spent the better part of the next day figuring out how I got it to start up. Eventually figured out the 3 locks to start / turn off and found the module under the steering column.

I want to get one badly now which would be cool! Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
It's especially useful for trouble shooting, if you want to start the engine while looking under the hood or at the tail pipe
