Anyone cover their EGR on a 5.7?

I need to install a Catch can, and in my research I see to buy the bracket you would need to cover/cap your EGR outlet/inlet eliminating the line. Anyone do this? What are the advantages and disadvantages? I know there are a lot of other places I can mount it, I just want to match the bracket and CC if possible, and it seems eliminating the EGR may eliminate a little heat-soak on my intake temps :) ...maybe not? Thanks JG

Check out the new Z Mount Billet Technology Catch Can Mount. This bracket makes accessing your catch can a breeze. Works with your 6.1 Hemi including the Jeeps GC SRT8. Also works with the 5.7 Hemi's but only with the Billet Tech EGR Block off (product code 5007) 05-08 only.

Thanks Scott...can you tell me a little about what that does? EGR is Exhaust Gas Recirculator, right? that is why I am doing this...the CMR! Johan said I have a $hit load of knock, and I should get a catch can, clean my TB and do come more logs. Only used 89 and 91 in my Jeep, so he thinks something needs some "cleaning".

I am interested in this as well. Are there any benefits to this other than getting rid of the faulty egr valve? Any performance gains? Long term down-sides?

Is there only the CMR tune that works?

the egr recirculates exhaust gas back into the intake manifold to continue to burn off "bad stuff" that normally would make it to the atmosphere or the cats. Its putting HOT GASES back into your intake air...so yes...it helps to lose that biatch...IMO:thumbsup:

I had the Z-Bracket ground down to clear the EGR valve.. if you don't grind the bracket, it will hit the EGR valve or as you mentioned, you can opt to buy the kit.

Brad I would be nervous about passing emissions in CA unless you don't mind doing some wrench work before every smog check :)

Why not just mount the Catch Can somewhere else, leave the EGR Valve alone, and spare the expense of a tuner (unless you have one, or want one) and then the cost of a CMR tune on top of it?

When are you going to run the Jeep at the track.. I bet you'll be impressed.

I bought a 6" x 6" x 3/4" L-bracket at Home Depot. Drilled it at both ends and mounted the catch can on the back side bolt of the cross brace over the engine. Catch can sits back near the PCM.
You'll need more hose and hose clamps though. Do a thread search on this forum for some good pics. That's basically how I did it (mine is an '08 also). No need to touch the EGR valve.

Hahaha it would be sick if you gave Rob and David business but in all reality, I bet you could find a better deal online plus you could get braided lines if you want to be a baller. I don't know if they sell them in yellow though.. :slapfight:

I go to Ditos for everything except warranty work and they hooked me up with a silver catch can. I asked about it while I was getting some service done, bought it, and they installed it at no extra charge!

It also came with the Z bracket. The bracket doesn't work with the engine cover and it actually hits the EGR valve when installed (The bracket is designed for the 6.1l engine). But Ditos took the bracket to a grinder and fixed the clearance issues. So if you plan on using the Z bracket you'll have to mod it to make it work.

I personally don't have braided lines but they custom routed the hoses for me and even used a few OEM hoses for the install.

So far it's held up fine and it's a high quality product. It works and I clean it out every thousand miles just to be safe but I could wait even longer between drainages. I'm not sure when I bought it but I've had it for roughly three oil changes (+/- 18k miles) and I have about 6oz. of oil in my garage that I've drained from the catch can. Oil that would have ended up in the intake manifold.

Don't use my figures for a reference though:)
The amount of accumulated oil in your catch can can vary. It's different for everyone based on a variety of factors.

That catch can at DS is a BT can with the DS logo on it. They're excellent. The BT's are plain vanilla (no logo), but I kind of like the DS one.
