Anyway to prevent/stop pitting on plastic chrome?

the lower bumper plastic chrome insert is showing signs of pitting. I'm not sure if its caused by rocks or just weathering. I've read that this is pretty common. anyone know of a way to prevent or stop pitting on exterior plastic chrome?

Re: Anyway to prevent/stop pitting on plastic chrome?

HI, this is my first post. I am also interested in hearing from those that have experienced pitting on the chrome. I currently own a 2012 Overland and I live in Colorado. The very first exposure to the treated roads (with 5400 miles) caused the chrome to pit. I thought that I would prevent this issue by waxing the chrome prior to exposure, but this did not work. I am religious about cleaning my truck after exposure. Chrysler was no help regarding this issue; they commented "please read your contract regarding enviromental exposure" - guess this is there way of opting out of any warranty claimes! How could a top rated truck "most awarded" experience these issues. Do you think that it is poor quality of materials? How can I remove the pitting and prevent further decay of the chrome. Never had this issue with any other car.
Thanks,
Joe Mags

P.S. The tech from my dealership recommended a metal polish like BRASSO; I have not tried this yet.

I just tried BRASSO....it did not work; I can still see the spotting. Perhaps it's time to trade-in the Overland before the pitting is more obvious. Sure wish Chrysler painted the mirrors, grill, etc. instead of offering inferior chrome parts.

Re: Anyway to prevent/stop pitting on plastic chrome?

unless you buy something along the lines of a rolls royce the chrome will be plastic, sorry, many people hate chrome ans swap all those chrome parts for painted. or pay to have them painted
