Are the front and rear diff covers interchangable?

I'm looking at a new diff cover for my 2008 WK with ELSD. Does anyone know if the front and rear covers are the same bolt pattern and shape?

Build sheet says 3.73 Axle Ratio, I'm guessing that means the rear.

the rear is an 8.25 Chryco I believe on the 4.7 and 5.7....is it the same on the diesel? If so...I wouldnt think they are...never really looked thougha nd I know the front is a smaller diff.

jeepnjeep is just really nice
Re: Are the front and rear diff covers interchangable?

Front and rear are totally different differentials. The covers will not interchange.

usually with IFS there is no front diff cover. there are exceptions..i havent looked at the jeeps to tell lately...

but also there 3.73 ratio would be front and rear, theres very slim to few applications for 4wd with 2 different axle ratios. unless are jeeps are equipped with something funny.

Re: Are the front and rear diff covers interchangable?

They are not the same on any vehicle. Every rear axle is different then the front. They are all shaped differently and are based on the size of the ring gear. The front diff on a WK has a very small under 8" ring gear.

On most other jeeps the setups are nearly always D30 front axle with one of the following rear axles, D35, D44 or Chry 8.25.

They will not fit front to back or vise versa.

Re: Are the front and rear diff covers interchangable?

I dropped the front skid plate and took a quick look. there seems to be something mounted on the front diff cover anyway, other than that, I did not check the bolt pattern.
the front diff cover has cooling fins, thought that would be good idea to have on the rear as well.

Re: Are the front and rear diff covers interchangable?

You can buy rear diff covers with cooling fins. There are many out there but be careful its an 8.25 rear end in the non SRT wk but its not the same as the Cherokee 8.25 rear end.

Also beware, alot of misinformed companies think the rear end is a D 35 in the WK but it is not. This for ex is a rear diff cover for off roading, its labeled for a WK d 35 but there is no such thing, its a mis print.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/05-08...211410007r2669

I plan to buy one any way but i did inform them of the mistake and they appreciated it and said they would look in to changing the listing.

The front cover is also much smaller in size then the rear. its almost a perfect circle as the rear is oval.

yeah, I'm not interested in some rock-proof off-roading diff cover. Not sure what you are looking for, but I want something that looks good and provides additional cooling.

Re: Are the front and rear diff covers interchangable?

Yea, i agree, I think it looks cool but i dont really need it. I have not seen any cooling covers myself but i ams sure they are out there. that one was just an example.
