Re: Autostix....

I used it alot and LOVE it. Gives me a little more control which I like.
BTW, it will auto-shift UP on the SRT (proven fact). I don't know if that's the case with the other WKs.

My jeep doesn't. My nissan did. I don't thinks Lexus does.

Re: Autostix....

The 2008 owner's manual doesn't say anything about starting out in 2nd gear. I'll give it a try just to see if it can be done with the CRD.

It also says that holding the stick to the left will shift into the gear range "from which the vehicle can best be slowed down" with engine braking.

I only use it to downshift into 3rd when heading down an 8% grade and I need to stay below the 40 MPH speed limit on my way into the office.

The transmission will always honor a upshift command from 1st to 2nd gear, however 2nd - 3rd, 3rd - 4th, and 4th – 5th upshift commands will not be honored if the vehicle speed is to low to maintain operation in the commanded gear. The transmission will automatically downshift as the vehicle slows to a stop.
When in the Autostick mode, as the engine RPM nears the engine maximum speed, an “UPSHIFT” message will appear in the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) portion of your instrument cluster. This message appears in order to alert the driver that the engine speed is approaching it’s maximum value and a upshift to the next gear is required. In the event that the driver does notupshift, the engine control system will limit the engine speed to protect the engine.
Shifting into or out of the Autostick mode can be done at any time without taking your foot off the accelerator pedal. When the driver wishes to engage Autostick, simply move the shift lever to the Left or Right (D-/D+) position while in D (Drive).
Hold the shift lever to the right for at least one second to disengage Autostick. The transmission will now operate automatically; shifting between the five available gears.

Autostick General Information

  • You can start out in first or second gear. The system will ignore attempts to upshift at too low of a vehicle speed. The transmission will automatically downshift to first gear when coming to a stop.
  • Starting out in second gear is helpful in snowy or icy conditions.
  • Avoid using speed control when Autostick is engaged.
  • The transmission will not automatically shift up when maximum engine speed is reached while Autostick is engaged.
  • Transmission shifting will be more noticeable when Autostick is engaged.

Re: Autostix....

Well there are sequential transmissions and there are automatic with gear range selector. Ours is just a range selector, not sequential. So up shift will be when the vehicle feels it suits the RPM's. Downshift however will be made when you want it, simply because you limit the gear range.
To put it simple....our transmission is like any old fashion automatic with P, R, N, D, 2, 1(The last two being gear limiters). But we have 5.

If the SRT8 has a sequential trans I don't know. On Jeeps web site it states the SRT8 has same transmission as any other WK. The W5A580 transmission. Could be more effective on the SRT8 though, because of it's quicker RPM response making the vehicle act faster like it was on demand.

Just my 2 cents

Re: Autostix....

I use it often. I love it. Especially when combined with the Superchips programmer.

But I do have to say, it won't upshift for you. At least not on the 05's. I've got it to bounce off the rev limiter once, when I was messing around with it. It will however downshift for you. Say you've got it in 3rd, and come to a stop and forget to shift, it'll downshift to prevent the engine from stalling. I've held it to the left for a few seconds going about 15mph and it went into 1st instead of 2nd where it should have gone. The Jeep all but stopped in it's tracks lol.

I've heard that they changed it from the 05 to the 06+....so that might be why mine does what it does.

Correct it will upshift on the SRT and it will not on the regular WK's.

It is possible to rev match (a little) with the autostick. I noticed that doing a little heel-toe action with the brake pedal when downshifting makes for smoother shifts.. but it has to be timed.
i did that before i an i didnt like the sound i heard

Re: Autostix....

Ive definitely tacked mine out before shifting from 2nd to 3rd on an on ramp and got distracted. its fun but i think it can be messed up if you try.

I down shift with mine all the time. i love the way the exhaust sounds. But i do it like a manual trans with the right speeds for the gear.

There is also a very steep dirt road we go up and down to get our X mas tree and i used it down to 1st gear so i was not torching my brakes that was such a help and it sounded awesome coming down that hill.
