Bearing going down

I think I have a bearing going out somewhere on my Overland, but I can not figure out which one it is. On left hand turns the roaring gets a little quieter, but I can not feel it in the steering wheel or in the seat. In my mind I want to think it is in the transfer case.

I jacked it up and checked all 4 wheels for slack, and it had none. All fluid levels are where they should be, no leaks or dirty spots around the backs of the wheels, and after driving the Jeep for an hour, the wheels are not hot to the touch.

The roaring sound gets louder going down hills coasting also. Shifting to neutral has no effect on the sound while coasting down the hill.

The only time the sound changes is in left hand turns and it gets quieter, so maybe it is a wheel bearing.

Do you guys have any other thoughts?

Re: Bearing going down

I still have warranty left on mine too, but if I could just figure out which bearing it was I would replace it myself to avoid a trip to the stealership.

Re: Bearing going down

Local Jeep Stealer replaced left front wheel bearing today. 319.00

My extended warranty would not cover the bearing, but it did cover my broke power folding mirror.

Re: Bearing going down

Thats retarded. I can get Timken wheel bearings for under $200 each brand new with my discount. Wish i had known. Could have gotten you one ans shipped it to you for much less then that. The prolly paid less then $200 for the bearings as well. The good timken ones book for $260 ish but shops and dealerships get them for cost.

Yea man. My downfall to this whole situation was I did not know which bearing was going down. I could have bought them and replaced them for way cheaper. I really thought my warranty would cover me on the bearings though. Turns out it just covers the axle bearings not the wheel bearings. The price on the bill showed 189.00 for the hub bearing and 120.00 for labor.

Re: Bearing going down

Thats even worse. When i had my XJ i needed to chance wheel bearings every 6 months with 35" tires. Every time it was under warranty of the bearing so i only paid once. I got so used to swapping out wheel bearings i got it down to a 30min job per side.

LOL, yea once you lift them up and something fails, it just keeps going out from what I have went through with my old ZJ. I am pretty much an expert on fixing the old girl though. I have become an expert welder over the last few months.

Re: Bearing going down

I had a front bearing replaced on my WK, it gave off a weird sound almost like a flat tire, im pretty sure it was under warranty but this was years ago.
