Re: bilstein shocks

i like the sound of not needing an alignment. the gf what a level looking wk and doesnt want to spend a lot of money. i found her some 1/2" spacers for 30 bucks from rustys offroad that i think would be perfect for her and a great alternative to the billys.

Re: bilstein shocks

I never got an allignment either, And I did full on swap of SRT bilstiens, bwoody springs, sway bars, end links, new rims and tires.

No uneven wear and I have about 4k miles on the swap. I might do it just to be safe and the shop by me is doing unlimited allignments for 100 bucks for 3 years.

Re: bilstein shocks

It makes no snese to go to all the trouble and expense to change out hardware and not get aligned. It is doubful the alignment is in spec ater installing front struts; It may not pull but is probably a little out of spec, but you cannot tell since the struts, strut mounts, sways, etc.. are new and the ride is much tighter. You can have the alignment checked at many places, and they will show you the specs. If it is in spec there is no charge. If it is a little out, you will notice the diference in how it drives, steers, and tire wear will be maximized.

most places will charge $30 for a check and $60 for the actual alignment. firestone is offering unlimited alignments for the life of the vehicle for $129

My thoughts exactly. I plan to do my front struts in the next few weeks and i dont plan to do any alignment right away. I am getting new tires in the next few months and if i buy them at Town Fair tire i get a free front end alignment, so i might have the alignment checked but i am not spending $100 plus for the alignment when i am getting a free one in just a few weeks/months.

I also plan to use the Rustys 1/2" spacers. I hate how the stock WK has a rake to it and now i have added Firestone Coil Rite air bags to the rear springs and even at 10 pis the rear sits about 1/2" higher so id like to level it out.

I dont think the supposed 3/8" lift gained from bilstein shocks would be anything noticeable or long lasting. Everything in the suspension settles over time after some miles.

Once i order the front spacers and rear shocks i will install everything and post up pics and measurements. Then when i get my new tires (the stock forteras dont have much life left) i will have it aligned.

Re: bilstein shocks

Looks forward to the pics and maybe a diy on the install, though the spacers should take no trouble at all to install

I will do what i can on the write up and DIY stuff. I am having them installed at my friends shop where i will help out. But remember i am installing new Bilstein struts and spacers not just the spacers. One of my stock front struts is blown right now. I will be buying either Bilstein 5100 rear shocks or just the stock replacement Bilstein shocks.

Thanks. I can get them through AutoZone. One of my friends still works there and he can get me the rears for less then $60 each and i can get them in 2 days as well. If i decide to get them and not the 5100s then i will go that route.
