Re: Brake Pads

Im not saying cross drilled or slotted or plain discs are better. I could care less....Im just stating what members here say. In the end...its all an OPINION. I will say there are better pads than the stock...there are better discs and pads than stock. Why pay $500 for the oem...when a better replacement can be bought for $200?
Me personally...Im in the same boat as you Matt...I wouldnt buy cross drilled or slotted again .....but why critisize others that do? Why question their purchase and chastise them for spending their own money? There are articles on the internet that say they are the greatest thing since sliced bread...and there are articles that you read that state the opposite. Like I said a couple pages back...why upgrade the stereo? The stock stereos are just fine. Why not buy the stock goodyears when you need tires? If Jeep thought they were good enough...why dont we? They are obviously safe and provide what a jeep needs. Same with gasoline, oil, wax...anything you buy. People just want what they feel is the best for what they can pay? Its all personal preference in the end.

I disagree. I don't think this is a matter of opinion... not how a product performs.

I didn't criticize harmfully... I was curious why people decided to move to a cross drilled, slotted rotor as opposed to a blank rotor. I know when I decide to do something that is not OEM I have a reason why. I usually spend countless hours researching (usually too many) and have an absolutely clear picture of what I'm doing it and why I'm doing it.

Right. That's why I question people when they change from stock. I like to know why people are doing a certain thing, why they are using a different product. And I'll question that person and provide an argument based on any opposing thing I've heard or read... because I expect that people here who have made these moves have done their research and can counter what I have read with a better, more rational reason... this is all in hope to learn and gather more information. (The sole reason I join forums... the exploration of knowledge).

REMEMBER WHO THE PERSON WAS THAT BEGGED FOR A MEMBER REVIEWS SECTION... I like to know what products people are using and why they are using them. If you think me asking questions or challenging a purchase decision is criticizing, then I'm sorry, but it's not. I just like to know why people do what they do. It can save me a lot of my own time researching if someone else has already done it. (that's why I've always done (as you have too) how-to's and write-ups - it saves people time).

I need some ones that will dust less than the stock ones, im sick of driving 2 days and having dirty rims and im not even driving hard! But what would all you recommend?
When I had my Charger SRT8, I switched from Brembo to a ceramic pad. the rotors were also changed to drilled. Way less dust and I thought the braking power was equal to the stockers....

The more I read the more I am discovering the argument that cross drilled, slotted rotors (these days) are more hype and looks than anything.

now smart people like me dont buy cross drilled slotted we buy Dimpled/Slotted. so that kills the cracking argument for me. this way I get the look, with no crack Nate can have my crack.

Re: Brake Pads

Drilled rotors and cracking are not something to worry about for street driving. I have seen them crack on road race cars more than a few times, as the rotors are subjected to extreme heat and the drilling compromises the sructural integrity. For the streeet, you will never see glowing hot rotors.
Theres little to nothing to be gained from any rotor over the stock one on a Jeep IMO; Older GC Jeeps had very poor quality rotors, but the WK are high quality. I just had my tires rotated at 54k, had brakes looked at and there is still 6mm left on the original pads on all 4, and they stop great.

Re: Brake Pads

Check out this link buried on centric's website http://www.centricparts.com/files/Ot...ake%20Pads.wav

It's actually hidden as a link to the last image on this page http://www.centricparts.com/index.ph...d=47&Itemid=81

Too funny.

Edit: And I just ordered a set of Akebono front and rear. To go with a set of Centric premiums... without the ghei, ricer-boi cross drilling. lolz
