Break In Fail, Now I need a new window. HELP

So I left my car at a friends house while I was out of town, and some jerkoff tried to break into my car. Fortunetly the tint i have held the window together and they couldn't get in. But now i need a new window. I called the stealership and they asked for my VIN cause they said theres different types of windows. He quoted me at about 350$ and said i had some solar shield window. Called an auto glass company and he wanted 225$ but never said anything about solar shield stuff. Do i need that, whats the difference? i assumed a window is just a window. any advice...

Re: Break In Fail, Now I need a new window. HELP

I believe that the solar shield glass is a factory tinted window. It is essentially a transparent tint that blocks UV rays to prevent fading of your interior parts due to solar exposure. The area of your window with the Chrysler star might say solar-shield if it is the tinted glass or not so you know what to buy.

Re: Break In Fail, Now I need a new window. HELP

I had literally the exact same thing happen. window got smashed pretty well, but my tint kept it together.

I was debating getting the non-factory tint but my friend that is a Chrysler mechanic told me he's seen people do that when replacing one window and then get aftermarket tint done, and he was able to tell a slight difference in the darkness. I went with the factory glass just to be safe.

Its not the tint that held it together. Thats a laminated glass.

You got lucky. Boniomario has the paasenger glass. I had to buy an aftermarket laminated glass which cost me 165.00 + 15.00 to tint.

Re: Break In Fail, Now I need a new window. HELP

the guy at the stealership i talked to told me itd be like 380 for the window, but for once i dont think he was trying to steal my money, cause he gave me the name of other places thatd do it for cheaper. but im not sure if those people have the laminated glass, i think i want that again in case some one tries to break in again, too many goodies that i need to protect.
