Re: Brembos on non SRT?

its the knee that they all want to sell....complete suspension on both sides. If youve done brake conversions before,,,,then get the srt b rake lines and have custom brackets made for moiunting,,,

Re: Brembos on non SRT?

I did it as well. You wont find spindles, better off buying the entire front knee setup off Cleveland pick a part, they usually have them.

Then like everyone else said, you'll need the lines & 8 copper washers, rear parking break adapters, proper 10.9 METRIC mounting bolts to mount the calipers as well as the 4 banjo bolts for the lines. The factory WK banjo bolts DO NOT fit the Brembo caliper properly, they may thread in but trust me Brembo is a Euro company and uses metric and the stock WK is all standard crap so don't forget those, don't ask me how I know

Re: Brembos on non SRT?

Thanks for the new information. I can have any custom lines made here to suit cheaper than buying new stock ones in stainless steel braide so will go that route. Will look at seeing it there is a way of adapting the original spindle to fit the calipers like I did on the XJ here.

BTW Scott, I found your thread on the finished conversion but can't find a build thread? Was there one done or by another?

Re: Brembos on non SRT?

sorry...there wasnt one. When I did the conversion there wasnt a JG.org and I didnt do a write up...sorry. It was pretty much removing the parts from the WK that I mentioned and adding the SRT parts. All of it is a straight swap. The SRT is basically a WK with high performance parts added or upgraded. All SRT suspension bolts straight on to the wk as well as about anything else for example

Re: Brembos on non SRT?

Glad this thread was started, I've actually had a few questions reguarding this.

1) Are the Brembos 4 piston? 6 Piston?

2) Has anyone adapted other breaks to work on their jeeps? Like wilwood?

3) Could someone simply get new lines, rotors, calipers, pads, and build a backet to adapt the caliper to the existing mounting location? You can pick up the r1's rotors for cheaper than the stockers.

I see that if you were to do this conversion new, it would cost upwards of 3 grand. I dont see how not getting a few (bigger up front, smaller in back) 200 dollar wilwood calipers, Similar in size (piston wise) to the brembos.. That a kit to fit them to the WK would cost THAT much

Scott, or soontobesrt do you have pictures comparing the mounts for the brembos vs the non srt? I figure a machine shop can fab up a bracket in 45 minutes.

As people start doing things to the non srt, Id love to see a better breaking option

-they are 4 piston

-Brembo makes an upgraded kit for the SRT......$$$$$$$$$
I dont know if anyone using another caliper? But that doesnt mean anything.

--yuo could do all that...but Ive never seen calipers the quality and size of the Brembos for $200. I got all four of my brembos for $400. Then I found a brand new spindle for $150 with the brake line and speed sensor and all. Then I had to buy a cpmplete knee suspension from cleveland pick a part for $400 to get the other spindle. The rest of the stuff I bought new....backing plates for the rear and brake lines. The bolts for the calipers are expensive too...but I found a aftermarket bolt that is better. I still have a whole bag of them and a new set of oem bolts. I may have had $1500 in it before I had the calipers stripped and coated in brembo gold with red brembo lettering. It was an aerospace coating and cost me $400.

I have a pic of the difference in the spindles...just let me find it...LOL.

Re: Brembos on non SRT?

Where did you get the calipers from? Cleveland, last time i called are looking for like 550+ for them... And new they are stupid expensive like 700 for 2 fronts and 800 for 2 rears.

If I knew the Piston size of both, you could easily find some others to match for under 800 brand new for all 4.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WIL-120-11138/

4 piston calipers, with 1.880 in pistons.. Those would work well in the front I'm sure.

Thanks for the help, im trying to figure out if there is a way to do it without replacing the knuckles and backing plates

I got them from a fellow Jeep owner. The specs on them may be on wkjeeps.com
