Bull bar, or not to bull bar?

I like the look of the bull bar, and was planning on getting one as my last (for now) mod. But I was reading how they can cause more damage than help. Any validity to this? It would seem that any impact that would cause the bars to push back into your bumper and radiator would probably still cause harm without it there. Anyone have any experience with this? I would rather not do a mod that would cause more harm than good.

PS..I have installed fogs and took pics of how I did it, but the pics won't upload because of some server error. When it starts working I'll post em.

Thanks

Re: Bull bar, or not to bull bar?

When you hit a kangaroo, and it smashes your headlights, puts a hole in your radiator, then bounces off the bonnet (hood) denting it, and smashes through your windscreen, you would wish that you had a bullbar.

one of two things can happen.... (im speaking on first hand experience here btw)

first lets clarify the bull guard from the brush guard (basically the same but a brush guard covers headlights as well as the front of the car)

i hit a deer with my old ZJ that sported* a brush guard... needless to say my ZJ was a total loss. the whole guard dented into my radiator puncturing it more ways than one. my grill and both headlights got smashed in due to impact when hitting it. also a my hood got popped out of place and needed new hinges and etc. basically despite the guard there i still got phucked. but i can say if the guard wasnt there then id have more damage (not that the damage wasnt enough to kill my ZJ) or even yet be injured upon impact... but still, i had one and my car was a goner. also some people worry about the frame being mangled due to the guard being bolted down tot he frame of the car..not the case every time, and it takes a big impact to disturb the cars frame.

now the bright side of the guard...

my pops has on on his 2009 chevy suburban and he recently rear ended a toyota (lots of pun- lol) going at least 70mph- it was a sudden stop... but the good news was barely any damage to his brush guard and front of the car for that matter. all there was two lil 1" scuffs from the front of the stainless steel brush guard on to his bumper. thats it. unbelievable of how the car looks after a 70mph hit up front.

also a disclaimer: there is a issue when using a brush guard with vehicles that have air bags options.... as in the guard deflects some of the intended impact to initiate the air bags so more often than not the air bag option is voided or even never deployed with a brush guard on a vehicle.

^^^insurance claims peoples will mention that to you one way or another.

gl yo- i say whatever u decide, be care full for deers- lolz

Re: Bull bar, or not to bull bar?

4xguard Matrix System IMO. its built to be a recovery point with dual shackle mounts up front. Plus they look a helluva lot better than a bull bar.

Re: Bull bar, or not to bull bar?

i had an ARB bull bar on my ZJ....

i hit one Deer, no damage
countless shopping carts (shoping cart bowling) no damage
one Buick (they had one sitting in the woods and rusting ar Paragon that people always hit) no damage
more trees and rocks than i want to admit...scuffed the krylon paint job!

loved it, kept the front of the jeep perfect. It was heavy, but worth it.

also the ARB bullbar is designed to crumple and set off the airbag in a high speed crash.

Re: Bull bar, or not to bull bar?

Hmm interesting. I have to watch out for those native Las Vegas kangaroos, lol. No, but seriously there are burrows. I wouldn't get the brush guard, just the bull guard that covers the bumper. I might get it.

FYI...airbags deploy with an inertia switch, not from impact. The guard wouldn't make a difference either way.
