Can I make it work?

Ok, so w/o getting in to detail i think in the near future i might need to do some intense work on my rear end in my WK. I have an 05 WK 4.7 with the 8.25 rear with quadra trac II.

I have build up axles before for my past jeeps and have a good idea of what is wrong with my rear end and what needs to be done to fix it. if its what i think it is i am looking at a at least $500 worth of work and parts if not more.

Well for a little more $ i can get a new low milege rear end to swap in.

If i am going that route i wanna swap in a Hemi D44 rear end.

Both rear ends will bolt in and both willhave 3:73 gears. so the bolt in aspect is something that is a non issue and i can do the work myself.

I know that i need to pay attention to see if its got QTII or QDII. If i get a good price on a Hemi D44 with a QDII rear Can i make it work like a selectable off road locker/limited slip?

Re: Can I make it work?

the big question IMO may be the electronics for the elsd. The 4.7's tcm is part of the ecu....not seperate like on the hemi's

Re: Can I make it work?

Well what i would be looking to do is swap in the axle and just wire an On/Off switch to the elsd.

But if its not that easy or worth it or if it just wont work then i will get one w/o elsd.

My main goal is i want to upgrade to the Hemi D44 with or w/o elsd.

Re: Can I make it work?

Elsd is controlled by the computer, wiring up a switch to control the elsd is going to basically impossible, not worth it imo.

I would take a locked axle over one with elsd anyday, if i were you i would look for one without elsd and throw in a air locker and you're done.

You know they make a locker that will fit your 8.25, right? What kind of work are you doing on the rear axle?

Re: Can I make it work?

I know they make lockers that will work but i figured that if i was swapping in a whole new assembly and i could make the elsd work then why not.

The only reson though that i would even do a swap is to swap in a hemi D44 and ditch the 8.25. I know i dont need to but if its about the same money.

I think i might end up rebuilding my rear end, i have some heavy clunks coming from my rear end, and play in the pinion yoke and the pinion seal is leaking. Ive built a few axles for my older jeeps and instead of putting money in to this for about the same money i can get a low mileage used D44.
