So has anyone else had an issue with the stock roof rack? I am planning on installing mine this weekend and don't really feel like dropping the headliner to put large washers under it.

^^^ phil i have had mine for 2 1/2 years and regularly carry kayaks and snowboards on top with no issues.

I hauled a twin size bed about 200 miles at 70mph with no probs, but this is concerning now. Thanks for posting op.

Wow thats some good info, never have I carried anything with my rack but am surprised they would not be better supported than that.

If your jeep came with an owners manual,you could have probably opened it up and went to the section on roof racks and found this-


Long loads which extend over the windshield, such as
wood panels or surfboards, should be secured to both the front and rear of the vehicle.

ive never had a problem but good to know. ive always tied what ever i was carrying to the front and back
