Chrome/Paint - Is this possible?

I was staring at my AEV Pintlers that I've had sitting here for a few weeks now, wondering what I could do to them to make them a bit more "unique."

I was wondering if this is at all possible, and what you guys thought about it.

The outer part of the rim being chromed, and having just the 'star' part painted gloss black. Is that even possible being that its a solid piece? I've seen chrome Pintlers, and I've seen black Pintlers, but I've never seen or heard of them being done this way.

What do you all think?

I've always liked the looks of rims like this:

Here is the Pintler so you get the idea.

Re: Chrome/Paint - Is this possible?

Forget any idea of "chrome" paint mate, it's truly shit.

To get the look you want, you need to sand off the paint on the lip, get a nice finish on it, and have it clear coated at the same time you mask up the centres neatly and paint them black.

The hardest part is sanding off the factory paint on the lip. I've actually done this before, and was lucky enough to use a friend's car hoist to lift the car, and idle in gear, using wet and dry sand paper to sand the paint off in a manner that is uniform.
You could also use a wheel balancing machine if you know a VERY friendly tire dealer!

In essence, to sand the lip paint off, you absolutely need the wheel spinning, and you need to watch your fingers on the spokes!

Actually, just took a second look at your Pintlers, the casting for the air valve is in a pain in the ass spot, leaving you in a whole world of hurt.

Re: Chrome/Paint - Is this possible?

I wasn't considering painting them chrome.. I would have them dipped. The paint part I was talking about is just the black.

Could I not have them sand blasted?

You could, but you will spend a LOT of time wet sanding to get them back to a nice uniform finish.

Re: Chrome/Paint - Is this possible?

lol, no sweat, saved your knuckles anyway

For what it's worth, I really like the factory gray colour!

I think you could jjazz them up just a little with a nice yellow pin stripe around the outer facing rim to match the centre cap!

Something like this, if you get me drift.... and if it don't work, well, it's cost you about $8 and 10 minutes!

Would look MINT!

Re: Chrome/Paint - Is this possible?

I'm not even sure I'm going to put the yellow center caps on yet, lol.

I've even considered having the wheels painted to match my Jeep. But I will probably just stick to Argent, I do like the color a lot, I was just pondering more unique ideas for them.

Re: Chrome/Paint - Is this possible?

You can easily have the wheels chromed, then paint the centers.
