That is what I endure every time I bitch about another thing breaking on my Jeep. This post is more just to complain about my 05 Hemi. I bought this with 56K on it and have taken as good a care as possible with it and as much as I love it, I just have to say WTF sometimes. Here's a quick guide of all the things that I've had to do and I've only got 94K on it right now....

New rear drive shaft when I bought it at the dealer.
Repair pass inside door handle
Replace T-stat
Replace one oxygen sensor
Repair CV joint at T-Case
Replace front ELSD solenoid
Replace front struts (did all four but front were shot)
fix rattling heat shields

Let's talk about the computer system in this thing. So I start a new job where I have a laptop everyday in my passenger seat. Well 3 months down the line my airbag light starts going nuts in conjunction with the pass airbag light. Long story short it reset the zero weight in the seat. On another coincidence I found out the hard way that the "spare 10A" fuses in the yellow holder are not spare but for the SRS system. After what must have been a few weeks driving without airbags unknown to me, I put two fuses back and my system reset without going to the dealer.

I've done Mobil 1/Mopar filter changes every 5k without fail. Did the spark plugs at 60k and diff/transfer case fluid changes.

Now i'm at my wits end. My last oil change last week I got drain the oil, and while that's going on I start my 90ish K 16 plug change. As i'm starting it I notice the coolant bottle EMPTY! No visible leak, plugs look completely normal. Now the icing on the cake....I change the filter, add my seven quart of mobil 1 and go to take the old oil, fill the containers for recycling and....only 3.5 qts came out!!! How the hell did it go through 3.5qts in 5k miles! And about half a gallon of coolant without leaking any on the ground.

Now that my butthole is completely clenched in the thought I could have run her dry I'm trying to figure out what's going on. I've now also added a water pump to the list and I think the rubber seal was leaking in a small void on the back when the system pressurizes. Another week of driving will tell me if I fixed that. It was the original that last 90k+ which I guess is fairly rare. As for the oil missing. I'll keep an eye on it and it topped off. To get my money's worth where I'll be satisfied, I need to see this thing make it to 150K.

Few takeaways, I need AAA, like now! I love everything Jeep stands for, the off road capabilites which other than snow i've never put to the test, attend as many events as possible but man it's just a massive POS at the end of the day. I'm never buying another domestic vehicle again. There is NO reason it should have had this many issues before 100k, most of my above list were done before 75k.

rant done....

Do you know how it was treated for the first 50,000 miles?

I'm old enough to remember when a 10 year old, 100,000 mile car was a rarity. So, needing some work along the way would seem normal to me. Of course, those were also the days I could fix everything myself short of rebuilding an automatic transmission.

Today I can't even find my distributor to change the points ... and the carburetor is nowhere to be found.

What I know is it went through two owners in the first 50K, the last owner only keeping it one year. All the maintenance was done on time but shortly before it was traded in a transmission flush was done. Presumably to fix a stutter which I later figured out was worn plugs. Also the starter was supposedly done but looking at it, I really doubt it.

Agreed it used to be luck to get 100k without major repairs but not anymore. This has been my personal vehicle and until my new job I was driving a Toyota Rav4 and a Ford Fusion AWD that I beat the snot out of. The toyota took the abuse and simply laughed it off. The fusion was an impressive solider for a long time but I went extreme in killing that one off. It easily would have gone 150K without issue. If you compare quality for 10-15 years ago, yes it performs fine at that level. Compared to modern cars, it's been disappointing. Besides maybe struts, none of the other stuff should be touched before 100k. Especially with how I babied and took care of it.

All i can say is i picked a 04 jgc with 134000 from A owner all the service records. runs fine day in day out other than being a little smaller in cab its the same as my 13.

that's within the acceptable range of oil consumption for a hemi. The rest sounds like regular maintenance and a possible rough early life.

I had the pleasure of owning a 2007 Overland Hemi until a West Texas buck totaled it on I 10 last year. Did 127k trouble free miles, at least 45k of those towing a loaded enclosed motorsports trailer back and forth from Atlantic to Pacific.... mountains and deserts not withstanding. I had to rebuild a front differential and reach a diff mount bracket, one left door window switch, and the rest was religious maintenance. The freaking truck was unreal. My sixth Jeep, now I'm in my seventh, a Summit oil burner. Can't praise them enough. Yes, some suck, but gotta go with my track record.

they last with care. that said, I drive mine hard. I mean hard. my modded v6 has given me over 30k miles of trouble free use and im the second owner!

all depends on how they are taken care off
