Coincidence or Problem?

Hi there, due to just purchasing this vehicle, I changed the transfer case fluid today and the rear differential fluid. I also changed the EGR due to idle problem.

The rear differential fluid was black, is this common?

Used and entire bottle of friction modifier by mopar in rear differential. Took for test drive and a whining noise began coming from the rear end. Is this common after a fluid change? Will it go away?

Never before have I heard this noise, but half way through our test drive, the steering wheel began to have a whining noise when turning, slight and large turns. Again, nothing in the steering pump area was touched, yet now I have a whining steering wheel. WTF?

I read some threads about the clockspring and the signal lever etc...but these threads sound as though the steering wheel is clicking. This is not. It is a smooth turn, just noisy.

So..any ideas on the differential or steering?

Thanks in advance, I really treasure and value this forum and everyone's insight/advice.

Re: Coincidence or Problem?

the rear fluid should not have been black, i wonder if they had the wrong oil in there or if it was contaminated with water.

Re: Coincidence or Problem?

He has the quadra-drive II, a limited, he needs the friction modifier.

Its hard to say without knowing how bad the "whine" is. The black may be from clutch material which dependant on how long since the last service may be "normal". So long as you dont have glitter fluid your likely ok.

What fluid did you use to top the fluid off in the diff? and did you use NV247 fluid in the t-case?

I used mobil1 75w 140 plus 1 4oz bottle of mopar friction modifier in the diff. And used mopar 247 tcase fluid.
