Angry Totally fed up.

Here's me totally fed up.

I have all the parts for my project, gave it a shot, and have decided I have NO IDEA what I'm doing. Tried finding tutorials or what-have-you, and I'm about to take the truck to jeep (if they'll do it) to install my system. Attached is a picture of all the parts, and about how far I got.

Does anybody know how to take the REC radio out of the '07 overland? I looked behind the radio and it seems that that RCA cable isn't long enough to reach the glovebox, and there isnt enough room to fit the cable and that box it attaches to.

Is there an easier way to do it? Or is this best left to professionals?

EDIT: I did get the radio out, but not 'OUT' out. Disconnected the radio antenna, but then decided things were best left alone and plugged in before I go too far

Re: Consistent startup power

I don't quite understand your reasoning for this. In order to broadcast wirelessly from your iPod/iTouch you will still need to plug something into the device that will broadcast music from it to the REC unit. I would suggest just running a cable from the back of the REC unit, to the front and mounting something on your vent's to hold the iPod/iTouch...

What would be useful would be somehow adding a hard drive to the REC unit, and connecting it to a wireless router. Then being able to transfer music from your house to the router/hdd/Jeep while in the comfort of your own home. But I have no clue how you'd even connect it up to the REC unit.

I have an AUX cable connector that replaces the satellite radio on the back of the REC nav unit. I then will run that into the glovebox or wherever and into the Airport router, apple has a new tech that let's you connect to the router and stream music wirelessly to it, and subsequently to the speakers connected to it

Me too. I have a switch so I can go from satellite to my iPod. Sucks cuz my iPod looses signal for a sec under an over pass or what not like reg satellite but it's still worth it!

Re: Consistent startup power

Omg driver side seatheater not working, press button, 2 lights light up and then go off after 2 seconds. Passenger works. Tugged cable out when I removed center bezel? Who's familiar with this

The omnifi system I mentioned above came with a wireless unit to put with my home stereo, and a wireless unit that goes in the Jeep. The unit in the jeep has its own wireless antenna, hard drive, and control unit. The idea is to be able to pull into the driveway or garage, and then update the hard drive from my laptop. It sounds to me like your going to a lot of trouble to have a local wireless in your jeep for an idevice rather than just plug it into an aux jack? Am I missing the advantage?

Re: Consistent startup power

I'm thinking my idea is in fact way too complicated. I can return the airport, but I want to somehow install that AUX cable. That omnifi system is an add-on or a radio replacement? Can't replace the REC system.

Re: Consistent startup power

Just to clarify - primary goal: listen to idevice through factory stereo
secondary goal: to use wifi connection on idevice so you can just jump in and not plug it into anything

if this is correct, please press 1

I can already listen to my iDevice, I have the jeep to iPod/iPhone connector, this is just extra. I want to keep what I have now, just have that also.

Just need to know how and where to install the RCA jack into the back of the radio. I noticed there are bars that support the radio, and there is basically no room to feed the wires. I figured if anyone knows of a small bit of space, and I can drop all the stuff into the glovebox that would be ideal.

Re: Consistent startup power

Have you looked at www.wkjeeps.com at the rec radio - it has detailed description and pinouts of your unit. You could direct wire it or use an adaptor on the radio connection
