CRD bog down at 3000 rpm

My 2007 Overland has developed a problem. When I drive normally/slowish all is fine. However, when I have to accelerate moderately fast, the engine will rev up to just over 3000 rpm and then just bogs down and stay there at 3000. Even with my foot to the floor it will not rev further. I then lift my foot a bit and then it starts accelerating again as normal into the 4000 rpm's. The weird thing is that from that point onwards it will not bog down again until I have stopped and the Jeep has been standing for a while.

I have tried pulling codes with the ignition and a reader numerous times, but no errors are ever found. There is also no CEL.

Any ideas ?

You'll probably have better luck in the diesel section.

I know a lot of people had trouble with the swirl motor, which I think could cause a bogging down - though usually results in a CEL.

Could that be a problem with the EGR valve? I've run across a few posts in other forums about that creating performance issues on your particular CRD. I believe they also stated in those posts that you can take the EGR off or apart and clean it to solve the issues. Might be worth looking into.

I had it cleaned and it made no difference. Also did a swirl motor bypass just in case. No luck in either case.

Re: CRD bog down at 3000 rpm

My Jeep had a similar problem about a year ago. The tranny won't upshift at times. basically staying at one gear. had to pull over shut it down and restart. Replace the speed sensing unit (electrohydraulic unit) in the tranny. It work great after that. Be careful different unit for '07 & '08 models. Look into it....hope it helps.

Re: CRD bog down at 3000 rpm

Is the speed sensing unit a sensor or something mechanical ?

Not mechanical. Just another module.
