I have a 2005 5.7 Limited with 86K on the clock. No engine mods.
I went to the Dealer to get my oil changed and they informed me that I have a leak from the "External/Auxiliary Trans Oil Cooler Hose". Part # CH55038175-AA. I've tried to find this part online (Rock Auto) but haven't had much luck. Does anyone know where this hose is located (on the car) and where I can possibly find it (online)?
Hose from Jeep costs $75.60 plus $260 ish for labor. Ha!
That's actually not a bad quote...those can be a royal PITA to change out. On our 3.7L WK they are located on the passenger side and enter the radiator at the bottom. Usually it's pretty obvious if they have been leaking. It's a common issue with these trucks.
I just had the dealer replace my leaking ones about a month ago for $270 parts+labor. The lines were $60, but take some weird disconnect tool, and the job itself is a PITA. It was worth it to me to have the dealer perform the job (2-3 hours labor) than me risking screwing up something major. And I NEVER have the dealer perform any work. No regrets though. Common WK fault. Mine was at 79K.
....not to mention...I have no way to check the trans fluid level in the 3.7. The dipstick is not included, and the dipstick hole is capped off and says "Dealer service only" or some crap. So I couldn't if I wanted to.
totally worth having the dealer do it. I did it and had acess to a lift and it was still a PITA!! took me 4 hours and it was a head ache. i didnt need a special disconect tool a screw driver popped the clips off and then the lines just pull out but trying to figure out how the lines snake in and out without bending them was the hard part. i did it but it wasnt easy. taking the pan down and changing both filters did give me a little more room to work
It didn't take them that long to do it when I took ours in...maybe 2 hours? They tried to tell me after the fact that it took longer and was going to be more expensive...so be careful.
I had that done on my 2006 V6 WK. Was around $290 all in. Parts, on average, are around 60 and the listed labor is about 3 hours.
It's definitely a PITA, I didn't even begin to try. That tranny on the V6 w/out the dipstick requires a special piece of equipment to check the fluid level. Much better off taking it to the dealer to have it taken care of.
just had mine done as well at 46K, didnt pay a dime as i paid for the an extended warranty but it was around 400-500 Total for the Job. I Noticed they were damp with fluid so i took it in and 4hrs later it was done and fixed.
I might be having to do this soon. My lower line looks like it has dried oil on it. I never have any drips under the jeep but the line itself is dirty from fluid.
whichever hose is the accordion style one that attaches to radiator, and is visible and reachable from the top, had a wet spot after my 360 mile trip. i noticed a few small puddles under it a week or so ago. they're dark like oil, but it didn't really smell like oil. they're charging a flat rate fee of $65 to diagnose what else may be leaking and he said, "in his experience, it's usually the oil cooler itself. well, i have no check engine light, the jeep is not running hot, and am not seeing any other fluid. the coolant reservoir was low by a little last week but it is mostly holding steady still. should oil coolers fail at 27,919 miles? i get hoses, my Jeep will turn 10 in May.
just found the accordion style hose damp after a road trip and service guy said in his experience the hose is not what's leaking usually it's the oil cooler. ugh. appointment for new hose and $65 to learn what else is leaking. was going to have them install the hood latch assembly but they would charge $154. geesh. but my Jeep is 2013, only 27919 miles. so is this a premature fail or typical?
My lines were leaking and replaced at 30k under warranty, and the replacement ones have lasted to 163k so far. Must be poor QC, as many model years later they still have the same issue.
