dechrome the trim?

After installing the new wheels, the look of the black against the red really grew on me. If I do paint the trim black, it will either be with the same paint as the wheels (a rough flat black finish) or a semi gloss black (similar to what the factory skids and tow hooks are painted).

I've never been a huge fan of lots of chrome, but I think it looks classy...

Blacked out (the roof rails and headlights would be blacked out too):

Ideas?

Re: dechrome the trim?

Paint to match. Keep the chrome on the windows. Rest is painted to match (grill, door handles, side moldings)

Similar to redrockers jeep

YUP! Looks awesome, that's what I did to mine too. Chrome under the windows gives it a nice touch IMO.

Looks like you and I are playing leap frog. I really liked the look of your OWL with black rims, so that's what I'm running now (as of last night).

I'm now tired of my chrome window trim, so I just bought some TrimBrite carbon fiber-look tape. I'm not usually into fake stuff (i.e. fake carbon fiber) but compared to TrimBrite's black tape, there's just more character (without being too much). I'm thinking a LITTLE carbon fiber-look accents will blend in nicely. If not, I can always rip the tape off.

I'm also thinking of painting my "Jeep" badges (the only badges left on my Jeep) some form of black - maybe the GM carbon black (metal flake) that I painted my rims with (I'd prefer to find a way to black-chome the badges, but I haven't found a suitable solution for that yet.)

My biggest headache is what to do with the rear chrome parking sensor strip - it doesn't like being covered with the fake carbon fiber.

Nice! I would love to see some pictures of the finished product with the white lettering out! I've heard (though probably not from people who have actually done it) that the parking sensors can take a light coat of paint. So you could possibly cover the strip with the carbon, and give the sensors a light coat of grey or black.

As for the badges, I was so close to tearing them off completely the other day, but now you have me thinking of possibly going semi-gloss black on them. At least the Jeep emblems, I'll still probably get rid of the rest.

As for the paint, now I'm thinking:
Paint the roof rails (maybe paint these black as they might look out of place with black endcaps), window trim, door handles, side molding and rear accents inferno red crystal pearl coat
Paint the grill and headlights semi-gloss black

If I do that I can always change the grill to the red if I want... the headlights would kind of be a one time thing, but I could probably live with the black either way.
