Re: Differential oil question

Yeah, I changed my front diff oil this afternoon and wow, what a difference. If you plan to do it yourself, make sure you have the 14 mm hex key (allen wrench), but I would get the 14 mm hex socket from Sears first; forget the "allen wrench", unless you have a short breaker pipe to use over it, for leverage (thing was on tight); even then, I'm gonna pick up a socket fitting for the next time.

I like to do things myself, but can understand situations where it's not the best option (it is messy), but avoid the dealer and go to a reputable (not a jiffy lube) place and have them do the change. Be sure they are aware (if not go somewhere else) on what to use, as far as synthtic and if you need the LSD additive (eg QD II )..

BTW does someone know the answer to my previous post....im itching to do some differential oil changes here
Correct. No ELSD on Quadra-Trac II. My build sheet says same thing. No special MOPAR juice required.

You can use Mobil1 75W-140 for the WK's. Need 4 qts @ $13-14 per quart. Get a 14mm Allen key (ACE Hardware, $9.99) and take out TOP PLUG FIRST on the front differential. Be careful on getting a 1/2" drive socket. Not much room there to insert the socket and rachet. Shouldn't overtighten it anyway (44 ft-lbs).

Stinky stuff. Cover & dispose of quickly.

Re: Differential oil question

i have a quick question: how do you know what kind of differential you have? i see quadra trac, elsd, and some other names being thrown around and would like to know which one i have?

my wk is a 07 3.7 auto and other than that idk much else. i am guessing you check by the vin number but where would i look for that? also does anyone have a diy or a write up on changing the front and rear diff fluid and the transfer case fluid also? that would be really appreciated. i looked at wkjeep.com and only saw a few things for the transfer case and couldnt find much on the differentials.

you do not need the addative in your fluid, that is only for the 5.7. these is a set of how to videos in the how to section on here.

Re: Differential oil question

here is the link.............

that is for the quick method which eliminated the need to unbolt the entire differential plate. it uses a pump instead. i use the pump method myself.
