Documentation/Administration Service charges?

Did you guys get dinged with a "Documentation/Administration Service" charge when you bought your WK from the dealer?

I was dinged $545 and I honestly believe its a frickin scam. Maybe one of you can convince me otherwise!

Re: Documentation/Administration Service charges?

A scam? No not really. If you signed on the line, you agreed to pay the fees included. Either tell them you will walk away if they include what you consider unreasonable fees or just pay them, the decision is yours. What many folks fail to realize when purchasing a Jeep is that they really don't have to do it "today." Once they see that you feel like you have to purchase this vehicle and you have to purchase it today, they pretty much have you by the nads. Showing that you are willing to walk out the door empty handed can go a long way in getting to the point where you pay a price that is "reasonable" to both sides.

I usually tell a dealership that this is what I want and this is the out the door price I am willing to pay. If you can do it at that price we have a deal. If you can't I will continue to shop around. I don't really care how the juggle the numbers on the paperwork or what fees they wish to charge. If the bottom line final price is what I am willing to pay, then we have a deal.

Re: Documentation/Administration Service charges?

^^^ Thats the same anywhere. If you agree on a price then all of a sudden they tack on extra fee's thats kinda messed up and would make me walk out of there asap. Negotiate the price of the car right there next to it in the lot, they try and lure you into there office into there space. When I bought my WK I made the deal right there, even being a wise ass mentioning I was the only customer on the lot. Told them I had X amount to spend and if they couldnt do it I had to go to look at other cars cuz it was my only day off to buy a car. The best thing you can do is always walk away and think about it for a day, if they give you the line that the car might be sold later or the deal is only good for that second then I say screw it and look elsewhere. Car dealers are not selling cars, I see the same ones from a year ago still on the car lots I drive by daily.

Re: Documentation/Administration Service charges?

Over here it's called "dealer delivery".
It's basically a ridiculous price for washing the car and doing the paperwork, and anyone worth their salt negotiates the charge out of the bottom line.
Dealers rely on people who are asleep not realising the charges as it allows the dealer to regain some profit margin if the buyer thinks they've screwed a good deal

Re: Documentation/Administration Service charges?

Buy used and pay cash, get a printed receipt and use a false name, steal license plates off of other similar cars and swap them out about once a week. Print out a fake inspection sticker on your home computer using photoshop and drive normal so you dont get pulled over. IF, you happed to get into an accident run from the car and leave it there, but not before wiping your fingerprints from the steering wheel, climate control knobs and door/window buttons.
