Good! Does it ever use 9th? One review I read by car and driver or some such said they couldn't get it to shift into 9th. If it does. What rpm is that at 80mph? Just curious.

I can't tell you as I don't know. Besides, I couldn't care less if it shifted in to 9th or not.

The point is that the up-shifts (in whatever gear) are smooth, and that the down-shifts are seamless. This combined with a powerful V6 makes the KL a real driving pleasure.

However your post has initiated my curiosity too. I'd love to unleash the 9 speed KL on the open road and break some speed limits one day. When I do, I'll be sure to report back with Speed and RPM

Well, we are different animals I guess. I want my stuff to work as intended. The 9th gear is about economy and not speed though.

Re: Done.

It's hits ninth at about the 105 km/h mark, which is well within the 110 speed limit of our freeways. It sits very nicely there.

Re: Done.

I don't think 9th is as elusive as what you have read Unobtanium. A number of KL owners have reported it but you obviously need a clear run on the freeway. In addition it appears and has been reported that it shifts into 9th on some long down-hill runs as well, although I haven't seen that.

Like Marty has said, the KL is a fantastic vehicle. Granted, there were transmission issues but most of those appear to be MY14's. We have the CRD which may or may not make a difference (put it this way - no transmission flash's are applicable for our vehicle) and I'm very happy with the transmission.

In the first few weeks, on occasion it would 'hunt' IYKWIM but that has completely disappeared and she shifts very smoothly now - 6 months of ownership - over 7000kms on the clock.

Good luck with your Mazda.

Good deal! I looked at it, but it got terrible reliability reviews especially as related to the transmission, and given my current experience with Chrysler, I chose not to buy it. I hope yours continues to give good performance thiugh !

I'll feed the mazada troll... You go after the guy who has swap his own motor and has been banned form dealerships due to his jeep?... If I had the engine he does in my jeep id wouldn't care if my jeep was panther pink I would still sport it.. It will beat most of everything on road and will only go faster down the road.

But hey maybe I'm a little drunk and just miss driving my jeep to much... Anyways..

EtA: nothing wrong with panther pink.

Re: Done.

I googled and found this:
Quote:
Thanks to an extremely tall 9th gear, the V6 spins at a lazy 1,500 RPM at 82 MPH allowing a reported 25 MPG on level ground.
So I guess the trade off is 5mpg worse than my CX-5 for about 1 second faster 0-60.

I can live with that trade either way, really, but since I have the gas sipper, I'll reflect on savings vs. drag racing, in this context.

Still, I'd likely get the Cherokee over the Ford 2.0 Escape. Those things have issues, and Jeep has a longer powertrain warranty, and to hell with a turbo.

Frankly, I'm surprised ZF has had such issue in the Grand Jeep and Cherokees. They are usually a stout transmission, but the Dodge service personell themselves told me to steer clear of the new 9 and 8 speeds, and I have had at least one patient tell me that their new JGC's trans has already been out once.

I pulled my motor out because it dropped a valve seat. I'm a fourth generation jeep owner, all the way back to my great grandfather, so it runs deep in my blood. Grew up having multiple in the family, so yeah I'm gonna be biased. Yes ive been told not to bring my jeep for service to four local dealerships. One has a picture of my jeep on a bulletin board with don't work on this written on it. Just because it's a dealership doesn't mean they know how to work on cars, they just know how to go by whatever the book tells them, and whenever a car is different they get stuck. If your looking for just transport then yeah your cx will be fine much like a cr-v, rav-4, or Santa Fe. But it is a smaller suv class then the GC, closer to the patriot or ugly as sin Cherokee. Owning a jeep is kind of, at least used to be, a lifestyle choice. Working on it is part of the fun.

Done.

BTW that n23 recall fix is absolute BS. It's caused by the possibility of oil leaking onto some wiring connectors and causing a short making it go into neutral. For this they proposed a software fix? It's not a software problem. I said screw that and put some shielding on the wiring where oil may leak. That's what they should have done, but they tried to cut corners on parts. Bonehead move.
