Question Driver seat ripped :o(

Got into my wk today heard a pop, got out looked at the seat and it split totally open on the bottom part Like a 3 inch split. For the life of me i cant figure out why i even conditioned the leather before winter. Now my question is i have a 8 year 80,000 mile {bumper to bumper} warranty. Think the seat is covered under it? I have 52,000 miles on it. My previous warranty expericence with my old VW wasnt a pleasant one. Just trying to prepare myself for what the stealership is gonna pull out on me. Any info?

Re: Driver seat ripped :o(

well this seems to be common occurance on WKs. what year is it? from the posts I've read some owners have been able to claim this under warranty.

Re: Driver seat ripped :o(

Depends on the rip... if it ripped on a seam there is a better chance they will cover it. My truck had perforated leather (ventilated seats) and the driver's seat tore after only 20K miles. I called my dealer and they said they'd either recover or replace it... but I traded it in that weekend lol.

They might be more inclined to deny your request if you tell them you conditioned it.

Re: Driver seat ripped :o(

its a 2005 gc laredo without the peforated leather. @ L train its right off the seam. Think it be better off telling them the leather wasnt conditioned? Thinkin about it yes or no could be a bad answer in that case lol. If i tell them i didnt use any conditioner, I expect to hear thats the reason why it happened but if i say "yes i did" they might imply on me using the wrong stuff to clean it with {Scratches head}. Well i guess im gona bring it in anyway this week. I will let you guys know the outcome. Thanks for the opinions

Re: Driver seat ripped :o(

Not that I think they will ask about whether you conditioned it or not, but IF they do, just say you used the Mopar stuff...they can't blame it for the rip if that's what your manual says to use!

Re: Driver seat ripped :o(

wk leather is not real leather so conditioner is a waste. you are supposed to clean with mild soap and water on a damp cloth. if it is a bumper to bumper warranty then i am sure they will replace that cover on your seat.

Re: Driver seat ripped :o(

I'm not saying water and a mild detergent would do any harm (in fact, I am sure you know what you are talking about!), but the owner's manual says to use this stuff on the leather:

http://www.justforjeeps.com/toclbymo.html

Leather Seat Care & Cleaning
Leather is best preserved by regular cleaning with a
damp soft cloth. Small particles of dirt can act as an
abrasive and damage the leather surface and should be
removed promptly with a damp cloth. Stubborn soils can
be removed easily with a soft cloth and Mopar
 Total
Clean. Care should be taken to avoid soaking the leather
with any liquid. Please do not use polishes, oils, cleaning
fluids, solvents, detergents, or ammonia based cleaners
to clean the leather. Application of a leather conditioner is

not required to maintain the original condition.

Re: Driver seat ripped :o(

I bought my WK pre owned and the driver's side seat had cracks on the edge where it is vinyl (the center inset is leather) and the steering wheel had some odd wear on it. I contacted Jeep's customer service and after the dealer took some pics and sent it to corp. they made me a deal, they replaced the both the lower and upper driver's seat covers, upper and lower seat foam, and the steering wheel. I had a $150 co-pay.

Re: Driver seat ripped :o(

Yeah, I'm very unhappy with the quality of the seat covers in my WK. I got a tear at 30k in the faux leather. I had so many dealership issues, I refuse to spend another two days effort to try to get them to fix it. Even if they did fix it, another 30k or less, it'd tear again. Lame lame lame lame. My last three jeeps never had this issue.. even with my two lab retrievers.
