Electric cooling fan

The last few days in Chicago have been mid to upper 90 degrees. Some days I use the A/C others i choose not to. I have the 4.7 with the belt driven cooling fan that runs when the Jeep is started. Well its a stop and go kinda day and it was about 95 out and i was using the AC. I noticed the temperature gauge was over the half way mark. It was a hot day so i don't think it was that big of a deal. But i decide to pull into a parking lot for the heck of it and pop the hood to see if the electric fan is working.

It is working and both fans are running as they should, I know there is a low and high speed but i find it kinda weird that the electric fan was running at a 'low" speed. Especially when the AC is running, its 95 out and the temp gauge was over the half way mark. I have enough coolant and everything is good in that department.

I'm just wondering if anyone knows when the high speed cooling should be coming on if at all? Or if there are settings for this?

Thanks for any insight.

Re: Electric cooling fan

I dont think its a multi-speed system......

FYI-I have a 4.7 and it does the same thing on really hot, humid days

Re: Electric cooling fan

my 4.7 (new radiator, and water pump, and fan clutch) stays at about half way in the summer, especially over the past few days when its been 98ish. even with the a/c on, of course the electric fan fires up then as well.

Re: Electric cooling fan

Alright, it seems that the consensus is that its not multi speed. I thought it would have been multi speed or something. I just assumed that mine could possibly be due to my dads intrepid having a low and high speed and my moms WJ with the HO also has a low and high. (They sound like jet aircrafts taking off when running.) In the case of my moms WJ, the HO motor does not have a belt driven fan, perhaps this has something to do with it having a multi speed system. Thanks for the insight.

Re: Electric cooling fan

I had my 4.0L wrangler hit 260 on interstate 85 heading to raleigh NC. That wasn't fun.

Ya i'm not sure what the actual temp really was cause the wk just has that goofy H/C gauge with no numbers (stupid). but it was just about 3/4 to hot so it was just cause for concern cause i never seen it that high. Hasnt happened since so i'm not going to worry to much.

Uhhh... 11:30 at night, 3 states away from home on a trucker route with no tools. The speed limit on that road is 70mph, so needless to say people were flying. It ended up being a clogged stat and a leaking radiator cap. A nightmare of an event for 10 dollars in parts!

Re: Electric cooling fan

GM used to have the best instrument panel for their trucks and suv's. I cant remember which suv it was but i want to say escalade... It would have the battery, coolant temp, oil pressure, fuel of course, Transmission temp, and oil temp. That was the ultimate if you really wanted to make sure your truck was running well. Probably for folks that towed and hauled everything. I think in all the new suvs they did away with all that.
