engine dies

My 3.0CRD 2006 Overland has all of a sudden decided that it will start for about 2 seconds and then just die.

when i try to start it up, nothing happens, its totally dead. If i then wait a while, it will start up again, and do the same again.

The battery seems ok, because i have power to the radio, lights, windows etc.

When i did manage to start it up and keep it running i had my foot on the gas, dont know if that was just luck.

the dash is reading 12 miles to empty, so i seriously doubt its empty.

any ideas?

Fuel pump maybe? When were the glow plugs last changed?

Re: engine dies

Car had its service just last month. If it were the fuel pump would it not crank or cough\splutter?

and now it fires up for a nano second and dies.

Re: engine dies

Will it run any better if your foot's on the accelerator?

Also how's the oil pressure?

Yes I think it will run when your foot is on the accelerator.

Lol Ok I asked for that

Also who serviced it? And did they carry out ALL the work?

Could possibly be the IAC is dirty/ faulty. I had starting issues due to that. Cleaned it all out and it's fine.

Re: engine dies

sorry been away for a while

but it started on saturday night, and again on sunday. i have not tried it since.

It made no difference if I put my foot on the gas or not.

But what i did notice was that oil\temp dial was reading cold, and it took some time to move to medium.
