Re: engine number

you should find the engine number on the front of the engine block ,same side of the oil filter, below the high pressure pump. There is a engine manual for the CRD in the diesel section that has all engine info.

Re: Jeep 2006 oil engine oil level

Dear Members,

I certainly appreciate contributions posted on this forum and wish one day I will also be able to assist in one way or the other.

I recently took my jeep for service and obviously this included replacing engine oil with new. I just decided to check the oil level and noticed that the 'dip stick' was showing oil on half. I then requested professional information from my garage and they advised me that my 3L engine takes 9.5L of oil and the dip stick reading does not matter. Is this true?

Re: engine number

First off, I think the oil quantity is listed at 10 qts. for the diesel, so you may want to check your owner's manual to verify. If they only put in 9.5, that would explain why the oil is a little on the low side!

As to the dipstick, what they say is sort of true and sort of not true...the dipstick is there for a reason.

Filling to the factory suggested level should get you into the middle of the acceptable range. Once the recommended amount has been put in, the dipstick is used to ensure it is at an adequate level. Many shops will not bother taking the extra time to top it up to the 'full' mark, as they do not want to risk over-filling and having to pull the plug to drain the extra out - it costs them time and money.

If you are between the hash marks indicating the oil is in the safe range, then you are fine. If it really bothers you, you can top it up yourself (just add a little at a time giving at least 20 minutes for the oil to settle, until you are accustomed to the dipstick markings).
