Erratic MPG and Distance to Empty in Onboard Computer

Has anyone else noticed that the onboard computer in the WK's is pretty erratic about both MPG's and Distance to Empty? My mileage seems to change really often, after a long highway trip(Could be like 500 miles) it will work its way up, and then will start dropping shortly after doing some city driving. Also, the distance to empty always seems to be going up and down. This jeep seems to compute it much differently than the WJ, as my mileage and distance to empty stays fairly consistent, and isn't always changing.

The computer continually re calculates your MPG based on many parameters which can include speed, head or tail wind, terrain, whether the roadway is sloped up or down etc. What you deem to be erratic is atucally quite normal IMO.

That is kind of what I was thinking. I was assuming that there was probably a more sophisticated method that they use to calculate everything than simply distance/fuel consumption which is how I presume the WJ gets it's information.

Exactly. Also to include how much you punch it, so don't worry nothing is wrong with your computer. I don't even have mine set on watching the mpg's anymore just as long as it doesn't go below the very last red notch.
