Esm replacement/trouble code

Hey guys-

This is my first post here, so hi everyone!

Ok here's my issue:

I'm getting a CEL for the faulty shift module. From what I can see this is pretty common. It's been going on for about a day, and then going off, then back on, etc, etc. The car shifts fine (or it seems) and all I'm getting is the CEL. The boxes around the PRND display only all go on periodically and when I'm shifting from park to drive, or vice versa. My mechanic wants $725 to do the job. I managed to get the part off of eBay for about $350 and I plan to do it myself. I'm by no means a mechanic, but I can do simple things, which this repair seems to be. My question is this: I have a trip I have to make this weekend (about 120 miles) and I'm not sure if I'll have the part in time. Do you guys think it's safe? I've been driving just as I normally would this whole time, and I don't feel anything out of the trans. I'm not that scared but I'd hate to get jammed up on a 3 hour drive. Other question: I haven't seen anything stating it, but does this install require any kind of reflash? Just want to be sure.

Thanks in advance for the responses. I look forward to getting to know everyone.
