Fluids and dealer giving me run around!

Guys im a DIY kinda guy. I am trying to change the front and rear differential fluids out.. and transfer case. HAS ANYONE USED FLUIDS OTHER THAN DEALER FLUIDS???

The dealer wont tell me what weight they front and rear use only "it's special".. WTF does that mean!! he wants like 120 bucks for front and rear fluid! says "2 for front 2 for rear" your telling me $30 bucks a quart x 4 quarts (unless my math is wrong 3.7L is almost if not 2 quarts and each diff needs that amount according to
http://www.wkjeeps.com/wk_maintenance.htm#TCASE)

Can i use royal purple? mobile 1?? something else thats better quality but cheaper? recommendations please! looking for dummy proof here like "go get 4 quarts of mobile 1 75w 140 with LS"

also dont forget also looking for transfer case fluid suppliment as well.

thanks in advance!

Re: Fluids and dealer giving me run around!

ok slow down a sec.

1. if you do your own stuff, keep good records. they WILL challenge you on warranty work.

2. wkjeeps has ALL the correct info.

3. **** THE DEALER.

ok shopping list: 3.7 NO MY given.

AXLES: 127 oz. (4 qts = 128)
All models, all axles:
MoparŪ SAE 75W-140 Synthetic (API-GL5)

ANY thing that matches the spec (API-GL5) will be fine. Mobil 1, Royal Purp, whatever the F you want so long as it meets that spec.

XFER CASE: 1.4 pts. (22.4 ozs.)

Automatic Transmission Fluid MoparŪ ATF+4, type 9602 ( SO GAIN, ANY ATF +4 MEETS ThE STANDARD.
Transfer case drain plug torque: 15-25 ft. lbs/20-34 N·m

DONE.

4 qts SAE 75W-140 Synthetic (API-GL5) gear oil
1 qt ATF+4

Re: Fluids and dealer giving me run around!

What he said above....you do need 4 quarts total. If you have the Quadra-Drive system then you also need two bottles of limited slip additive. It's easy to do yourself, I have done every fluid myself so far.

Re: Fluids and dealer giving me run around!

no no i have the 4.7L V8... i referenced 3.7L because thats what the WK link said i needed for each axle on fluid... think i ment 3.7 pints tho! lol thanks for input guys.. i will go the mobile 1 75w 140 with LS additive... ill buy 4 quarts of that good stuff, then 2 quarts of ATF+4 mobile 1 again... i like synthetics and hopefully it will help gas mileage (doubt it, but cant hurt). Thanks again guys good luck to you!

Re: Fluids and dealer giving me run around!

You can get the Mopar ATF+4 at wallyworld by me anyway and it is $4.89 or so a quart. I just bought some to do my t-case. It should take just shy of 2 quarts to fill it. I bought a couple of extra quarts just to have it. (good for the t-case, tranny, and power steering)

Take the fill plug out first. You don't want to pull the drain plug and then find out the fill plug won't come out. Just an old habit of mine.
