Does anyone have instructions on replacing rotors on wk 06. Have done this before but not on this vehicle. Would like to know if any snags involved.
Best place to buy quality rotors instead of cheap worthless crap that wont last a week online or otherwise. I am in Michigan.
Depends on what you want. Are you looking for stock rotors or aftermarket? Stillens have had good reviews (I had a set on my Commander and liked them).
I just did the work, and used a set of stock rotors and pads. Picked them up from Steve White Motors (eBay) for ~150 bucks.
Snags involved? Well, my rotors were frozen. It was a bitch to get them off. I ended up pounding the sh!t out of them and they finally came loose. Be sure to get all that rust off with a wire brush before mounting the new ones. I used some anti-seize around the perimiter and the center for future removal help.
Other than the brake kit (rotors, pads, anti-rattle clips). I'd recommend anti-seize, caliper slide pin lube, and disc brake quiet. I also went and had my brake fluid flushed after futzing around with bleeding them. I though this was money well spent.
its very easy.....just unbolt the wheelunbolt the calipers(be sure to support the caliper so not to destroy the brake line. The rotor will have a rubber ring help to hold it on...pull it out and pull the rotor off. I suggest changing the pads with new rotors as well. bendix titaniums or wagner thermoquiets on the wk's work perfect.
I'd recommend either stock or Stillen rotors. Others have had experiences with other brands and might recommend those (search old threads). Stillen has fronts on-sale for pretty good prices...
Although, I didn't think I could beat the price/performance of a stock rotor kit that included rotors, pads, clips for 150 shipped.
I suggested the bendix and wagners becasue of the excessive dust most wk owners experience and becasue I have had them on my wk. The braking was exactly the same without the noise and dust of the oem pads.
