Exclamation Fuel Economy - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7L V6

Hi,
I recently bought a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7L V6 all wheel drive, fuel economy was said to be around 15 in city and b/n 18 to 20 on highway but I get 12 in city and around 14 on highway. Is there anyway I can increase the fuel economy?

Ouch that is low. My 3.7 reads the same when I go without an oil change but once I reset the oil change reminder it tends to go back to 17 city. Sometimes after a drive on the highway.

JDM12 has a spectacular aura about
Do you have the service records. My plugs were shot at 40k. Changed them and switched to synthetic oil and gained 1.5mpgs.

Re: Fuel Economy - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7L V6

JDM has hit on it, IMO. If you don't have the maintenance records, I would recommend you do a complete major inspection/maintenance operation. If it has more than 60K on it, I'd do the whole works.....all fluids (tranfer case, diffs. transmission, oil, etc.), all filters, spark plugs, plug wires (if it has them), and perhaps the O2 and MAP Sensors. Then you'll know what you have and what has been done. I would also use all good synthetic oils where possible. If you do the transmission, be aware that the NAG1 does not have a dipstick. To get the fluid level correct you'll have to ultimately take it to the dealer or a place that has the proper equiment/tables to check it correctly. The best way to do it, if you're doing it yourself, is to measure the fluid that comes out when drained, and put the same amount of new fluid back in. Then take it and have it checked correctly.

Re: Fuel Economy - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7L V6

Unless you have a really heavy foot those numbers aren't even close to normal. My combined city/highway mileage after 2+ years and 36000km, calculated with a spreadsheet, is 11.2 L/100km or 20.9 mpg (US gal). Granted, I maximize my mpg's by trying to keep the transmission in the highest gear possible (have to give up some performance for better mileage). From what I know, a CAI will not make an appreciable difference.
For reference,I did a cross country trip last year to the Rockies and my combined mileage was 23.6 mpg (US) including lots of mountains and even some mud in Saskatchewan. I think JDM and Jeepgcoman are right ...better get it thoroughly checked out.

20.9 MPG is amazing... I hope I can get close after a complete inspection, fluid and spark plug change.
Thanks!

Re: Fuel Economy - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7L V6

I have a 2005 3.7 and I get 12.5 city with 32" mud tires. I probably get better but I need to program the PCM for the 32" tires.

PVC valve, ERG valve, spark plugs. And if you want, buy a Fastman throttle body for only $280. I will do that before a cold air intake but I'd definately do both. The Fastman throttle body will save gas because your WK will use less power on the road.

Re: Fuel Economy - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7L V6

I was getting about 12 MPGs in my '09 3.7 4x4 with only 28K on the ticker and I just changed my plugs, diff oils, trasfer case fluid, and K&N air filter (I just didn't trust the K&N cleaning kit since my old K&N had dead bugs caught in it). Now I am back to about 16 MPGs city driving. When I changed my plugs two of them had melted ceramic insulators so it was time for them to be changed. All said and done it cost me about $250 to do all that on my own. I can't imagine what the stealership would charge.
