Re: Gas light question?

I believe the gas light is based on remaining mileage range. Not specifically fuel level. The 30 miles sounds about right. That 30 mile figure is based on your current MPG. If you are in the city, you may have a few gallons left (10-15 mpg), if you are on the highway, that may be less (18-22 mpg). I will try and find out as my DTE is like 40 miles right now.

Re: Gas light question?

I feel like mine comes on when everytime when the EVIC calculates 10 miles to empty but I am not sure.

So the light comes on when:

A) There are X gallons remaining in the tank. (would be the same for everyone)

or

B) When your Miles to Empty reaches a certain threshold. (amount of gas left would vary based on your EVIC AVG MPG calculation)

Which is it?!?! I've been wondering this since I bought this thing.

Re: Gas light question?

im all or finding out whats the gas but i just wanted to mention, letting you tank get that low is never any good for your jeeps. lower it gets the more crud you will get up in your lines... so keep that in mind when anyone is running real low on gas...i mean low..

I think its x gallons... Just depends on current mpg when it trips the evic

Alright I'm going to question this fact... I don't want to start a but i figured I would ask...
  1. Isn't this a dual filter system.
  2. With any dirving the gas will be in constant movment always stiring the "Crud" up
  3. Where does the pump, pump from? If the bottom then the crud would always find its way towards the lines with my previous point. if it pumps from the top with a tube to the bottom (which I dont think it does) you would still have crud. Stuff that settles would have less chance to get in the lines when empty though.

All in all I don't think you can stop the crud...

Re: Gas light question?

no worries lewi- im just passing thru here.. ill reiterate a bit. no harm here

my post is based on my previous jeeps... anyone can do anything they like with their jeeps but when i was young i use to let my jeeps run real low and on the light all the time... i ended up having to replace the fuel pump once as well. im pretty sure the gas needs to be circulating an act as its own lubricant. the more crud in the lines leads to the fuel pump has to work harder to operate correctly and that tells me ill be paying more $$$ for gas cause the gas will be burning quicker- IMO

but i dont know anything about this-

Re: Gas light question?

If its a straight 3 gallons trips the light, than your DTE reading would vary depending on where/how you are driving. (highway-50-60 miles/ city-30-45miles) I dont think this is the case, I think it is tripped by a specific EVIC mileage readying like 30 miles till empty.

Re: Gas light question?

I can see where you are coming from and it is logical lol. Now I hope that was true for older jeeps and not our newer jeeps. On the other hand the fuel pump could of wore our or been faulty... Who knows I have not seen the pump to come up with a good explanation... In the older carbed jeeps I could see more fuel being wasted because it would just dump it in more, but with fuel injected I would expect it to cut back the fuel used by the computer. Personally I run a fuel system cleaner ever 4000 miles to help keep the system nice an clean and keeping the crud off of the injectors... lol

On a sidenote I really like your SRT exp in the sig picture!

Idk people would have to report what evic miles to empty their light trips at and also what mpg they are getting on the evic.

Today mine triped near 10mte and 16.1mpg
