Getting into the market for a jeep.

With this being my 1st post, I just wanted to say that this is a great board! I have found alot of useful info on here.

Im looking to get a Cherokee within the next year. I will be looking at 06+ used with a budged of between 15-20 and less than 50k miles.

I absolutely love srt8. I think its one of the sweetest suvs on the market. So that would definitely be my first choice even if I had to drop a bit more cash.

But with that said, the jeep will be used as a primary veh to tow a boat (roughly 5k lb) and I have read that 5.7 hemi is rated to tow nearly double of srt8. How close is that to the truth?

I realize that srt8 will require some customization to accept a hitch, but if I go with limited (not really interested in overland), I will be looking to at least fit it with srt8 wheels and a drop to match, which I figure will cost me about 2k.

I also have read that alot of you guys are happy with your 4.7s. The question I have on those is how hard is it to get a set of long tube headers for it? I read that they must be special ordered for the hemi, and a set of LTs would definitely be on top of my mod list. Also how much is it rated to tow?

Re: Getting into the market for a jeep.

You could probably find a nice 06-07 HEMI for around what you are looking for. Then have some left over cash to put into it if you would like.

Re: Getting into the market for a jeep.

If your going to use the vehicle for a primary tow vehicle I'd see if you can find a 08+ Hemi. The Hemi is rated at 7200# and the 4.7L at 6500#. I'm assuming that is with the proper tow/haul package and a weight distributing hitch.

I haven't towed anything with my Gen I 4.7 but if it says it can tow it I guess it could tow it. I would feel more comfortable with a Gen II 4.7 or better yet the Hemi with all that nice extra torque.

If you could find one though, CRD's are good to look into, they haul ass (7400#) and don't burn that much gas.

Re: Getting into the market for a jeep.

Anyone has any pictures of Jeeps towing boats? I've searched and searched but have came up empty handed.
