Smile good milage with a 3.7

Just returned from a 75 mile trip and the jeep averaged 24.5 mpg and when i got back to town it was about 21.4 and it barely used 3/4 tank roundtrip- and its a 4x4! Granted I have a CAI, Magnaflow muffler, and powerwire and also drove 65 the whole way. Glad I got the 6

Re: good milage with a 3.7

about 200 miles the other day from Boston to NY I got about 23.5. Amazing what going 65 instead of 75 will do

Re: good milage with a 3.7

I recently ported my throttle body, magnaflow muffler and Bosch +2...my mileage sucked eggs. I was getting 14c/18h.

Then one day as I was traveling from Tucson to Phoenix to get it lifted...I was getting 24 for most of the way at 70-75mph. I have no clue why it decided to get better mileage. On the way back, I was getting 22mpg.

I recently fab'ed a true cold air intake, but put the factory back on. I will experiment with the CAI later this month. I have a feeling the tubing is a huge heat sink and is making the air hotter.

Re: good milage with a 3.7

the MPG between those speeds is significant ... If I'm doing 80 or over which I always do my highway MPG is around 17-18 but if I do about 60-65 it's around 23-24 makes a huge difference

Re: good milage with a 3.7

No kidding there! I've noticed keeping under 70 (which is very hard) I get better mileage. I'd probably get a little better mileage if I lived in flatter territory, but then again it makes for fun, curvy roads.. I'm averaging 17-18, got 25.5 once on a short trip where I had to go a lil slower.

Re: good milage with a 3.7

yeah our truck is very sensitive to speed... the second you go over 60-65 mileage starts dropping like crazy!!!

when i tow either one of my boats or my trailer my mileage on the highway doing 65 drops to 12-13

What are you using for tubing? If its aluminum tubing just use some exhaust header wrap on it which should repel a good amount of heat otherwise switch to a composite tube. You can buy the tubing without all the extra junk from say k&n for less than a bill, buy a better air filter(dry) and make your own cai without having a heat sinking material tubing.

It is 3" aluminum tubing. The kit is an E-bay kit for a 3.7 Dodge Ram. The kit looks nothing like the ebay pic..no surprise!

It took little cutting, but there was a weird bend and the clamp wont stay put. I ended up having to put diviets on the tubing to make it stay put.

I plan on doing a write up of some sort.

As for heat, I have a bunch of header wrap, but I dont like the look. I was hoping I could spray something. VHT has a bumper coating spray. I am thinking of buying that and laying a heavy coat onto the aluminum tubing.

Smile Re: good milage with a 3.7

Ive got the 63 series k&n with the stock resonator. Once I put the magnaflow muffler on it I noticed a slight power increase and after the powerwire a bit more. Overall I don't think the V6 is that bad, with a few mods It will perform much better than it would stock.I do plan on getting my throttle body ported but I need to save up $$$ after just buying a new toy for my jeep...
