Talking Got a question for all u jeep vets out there.

Hey all. I've got an 05 laredo 3.7. It doesnt have any kind of shifter or anything for the 4wheel drive. I just got it a few months ago and was wondering how the 4x4 system works. Does it just kick in when the wheels spin or is it full time. Or maybe 4x4 to a certain speed then kicks out unless you spin. I don't know. Never had a jeep and i'm just learning. Thanks in advance..
Later,
ps- my jeep is in the shop now getting the front bilsteins installed, i put rear on myself. Can't wait to pick it up and try'em out. Btw is $175 too much for front struts installed and alignment.

Smile Re: Got a question for all u jeep vets out there.

The 3.7 V6 4x4s have Quadra trac 1 which is fulltime AWD, There is no switches or levers to use, it is full time/all time 4x4(meaning power is split 48/52 front/rear).
The V8 jeeps have both quadra trac II and quadra drive. ( both are active on demand 4x4 systems)
Quadratrac II has the 4 low switch and neutral.
Quadra drive II has the same T-case plus it has electronic limited slip axels front and rear. Hope this helps.

FYI-there are a very few RARE 3.7's that have the qudra track 2 and 4wd low...but they are raare and you would have the chrome t handle to shift into low

Re: Got a question for all u jeep vets out there.

Here is a couple of videos from back in the winter comparing QT1 and QDII

The first one is my wifes Commander with the 3.7 and full time awd. It had a heck of a time backing up our driveway in the snow. It did not want to kick the front tires in. It seems to pull better going forward though.

Then here is my Overland with QDII...

My WK 4.7 with QT2 looked like that commander this past winter in the snow, it was horrible, I had to leave it in my parking spot until the snow melted, the following week I had some Dueler A/T's put on and I was driving through 2 foot of snow a few days later like it was nothing. Do you think those tires had any factor in why the commander did so horribly? I know the cheaper tires they used on the Laredo's where a really crappy 235 all season tire and while the all 245 terrains on the limiteds still sucked my brothers WK would destroy when it snowed out.

Man, I am not real sure. I know I have winter snow rated tires on my Overland, but the tires on the Commander where almost new. Less that 5000 miles on them at that time. If I come up the driveway forward with the Commander it would pull better, but backing up the driveway it would not kick the front tires in. With the traction control on, it would not move at all. Push the traction button once and it did like the video showed. Push the traction button for 5 seconds to totally disable it, and it would do decent.

I am jealous of your traction...I will never buy a 3.7 QD1 again!.

My crappy old 96 XJ could climb and crawl....now I am afraid to go offroad alone with my WK.
