a pretty nasty hail storm came through while i was at work today and now i have little chips in my paint all over my jeep. it's pretty depressing. i have a $500 deductible with my insurance...which right now isn't easy money to come up with. i can live with the chips (sigh) but my big concern is rust, especially being in western pa. anyone have any input on what i should do?
the only good thing i see coming out of this is MAYBE i can talk them into painting the lower door trim and plastic rockers, and if i'm lucky the front air dam as well. with my luck they wont do any of it, being that most of the damage is on the hood and roof.
get the check from the insurance; then work it with the body shop.
I have seen some real big hail out here but I have only seen dents NOT CHIPS? So is it down to the primer? IMO chips is a whole diff animal than dents.
yea, it looks to be down to the bare metal in some spots dont know what color the primer would be but each chip looks to be either silver or white. the chips are so small though i don't know how they could go so deep. maybe ill try to take pics tomorrow, don't know if they will show up or not...
i can't really tell if there are dents yet or not because of all the rain sitting on it. i will give it a better look tomorrow when things clear up.
i took a look at my moms car after she told me she drove though the same storm and it looks like she was in a wind tunnel shooting rocks. hers is much worse than mine!
IF they arent chips and are just dents I would suggest a 'paintless' dent place. but of course if the paint is damaged they cant hep, it'll have to be a body shop.
glad that storm missed us altogether here in md. sorry about your luck buddy. id agree though, have them cut you a check and go to a good body shop where you know they will blend the areas they painted in with the rest of the jeep.
I had a wind gust grab my passenger door and bend it back, doing 600.00 in damage. Geico used my comprehensive, rather than collision, which was only a 200.00 deductible....maybe you have similar coverage?
take it to a body shop get an estimate... if it is a large enough chunk, cough up the 500 bucks, take your big check and get a paint touchup pen. cover up the chips then buy some goodies for the rig!
haha ive had that thought running through my head since it happened, but i think id rather have it properly repaired. its going in to be looked at on wednesday. i will prob just keep it honest and have it done right so after a few salty winters i wont have rust bubbles popping up all over...
